Thank you for continued prayers for Steven. I talked to him earlier this week and I don’t think things are going well. The mother of his child is the daughter of my bestfriend (since grade school). Right now she is seeking supervised visitation because of Steven’s on going problems with drugs. He is very angry right now -he insists he would never do drugs while watching his daughter (as if that makes drug use ok). He is also very jealous because she has started seeing another guy (a nice stable college guy with a good paying job).

It’s so hard reaching him because he is so self focused. My bestfriend’s family has reached out him continuely despite knowing his history and yet he is once again angry at them because “they are trying to take his daughter away from him.” He can not see that he is the cause of his own problems. I know drug use retards maturity and it’s come out that the drug use has been going on for quite some time, coupled with his abusive family life and it’s just a frustrating mess.

I still have been reaching out to him, letting him know we are here when he’s ready to make the changes he needs to make but he no longer trusts me and sees me as “a spy” for the “other side”. All I can do is continue to pray until Steven is ready to face the things he needs to change in his life.

God. I know the struggles and pain a parent feels when a child (even an adult --35 yrs–child is doing drugs)…Please help Stephen straighten out his life. Help him to WANT help and help find the right person to guide him through the difficulties he faes and the added burden on the family. We don’t know why these things happen…We cannot understand. Perhaps your Son Stephen would be a good counselor/teacher for others. I pray, God that you will help them in their struggles and PLEASE place a guardian angel to watch over him…Give them peace and faith that good things will happen.

Thank you so much for your prayers! Steven is not my son, he is the former boyfriend of my bestfriend’s daughter whom he fathered a child with. We are the Godparents of his baby girl.

Steven called me this morning emotionally distraught. He fought with his daughter’s mother “Ashley” on the phone this morning because he wanted to see his daughter today but the family has a funeral to attend so she said he couldn’t today. He has a tendency to call out of the blue and want to see the baby right then and gets upset when he can’t. They are actually going to court a week from today to establish custody and visitation guidelines.

I watch his daughter on Wednesdays while Ashley is at college and offered for him to come here and visit with her as long as Ashley was ok with that (which I was sure she would be.) She just doesn’t want him alone with her because of his drug use. I did talk to her later and she was fine with that.

I think I convinced him to start attending 12-step meetings (for either drug or alcohol abuse) and I went online and found when and where they were held so I could give it to him. I spent an hour repeating that he needs to make the changes, clean his life up, be responsible, be a good dad. He’s upset because Ashley won’t listen to him and just gets angry. I told him words mean nothing at this point you’ve made promises over and over and broke them over and over so she’s not going to listen because she wants to protect herself from getting hurt-again. He needs to show her and it will take time -and lots of it.

I found a St. Jude holy card stuck in the hymnal at Mass yesterday and I plan to give it to him. I thank you all for your conitinued prayers!
 
O Lord, please send a band of angels to surround Steven, so that he may be prtected from himself. Penetrate his heart and help to turn to You, O Lord. In Jesus name we pray.

Steven called me this afternoon, he wanted to let me know he passed his drug test for enlistment in the military. It looks like he is serious about joining the Army after he graduates in June. This could be a very positive step for him, he sounded pretty happy on the phone.

He’s coming to my house tomorrow morning to visit with his daughter while I babysit her.

Hey there. Please tell Steven not to give up because he has heaps of people praying for him on here. I know where he is coming from and plus. I have a girl friend who was a drug addict and she says that the only thing that had rescued her was the NA meetings. Please get him there. I am so sorry about my earlier post in saying Steven was your son. In any event, he is very special to you. My own son has many drug problems and for 15 years I have tried to help him. I have given him money for rent (which went to drugs), money for cars (drugs, again), a place to live (never paid rent) and finally money for meth treatments (one treatment, then drugs again). I haven’t seen my son in over a year and have only had contact with him by text messaging.
Dear God, Steven needs Your help and intervention. Above all, help Steven realize that he is TRULY loved by many and many people are praying for him even though they do not physically know him. He is one of Your children. Steven sounds very much like my son, God, I pray that You will guide them both and give them the Faith that seems lacking right now. Amen, amen
