Some time ago I attended Mass at a local parish during which, as always, the celebrant changed the words of the Eucharistic Prayer. Even worse, he changed the words of consecration. Instead of saying:

“This is my body”

followed a minute later by

*“This is the cup of my blood” *

he elevated the host and chalice together, and said

“This is my body and blood.”

Was this a valid consecration?

No, probably the validity would be questionable, it is at best illicit.

Pray for the priest, and write a letter to your bishop. Changing the words of the consecration is a very serious problem.

i’ve heard someone say that they were delighted when once their pastor, Fr Michael Pfegler, interrupted the consecration to ask God, "what do you want, just ask it and we’ll do it for you,’ or something along those lines. they felt this indicated a closeness to Daddy that was indicitive of the kind of open relationship he wants with us.
I seems to me rather that Fr Pfegler was implying that he was equal to Jesus, since in the midst of representing His offering, Fr didn’t feel compelled to just mimic Jesus. he seemed to feel that it would be quite alright to effectively step in and say, ‘i know You’d like to offer Yourself for the salvation of mankind right now, but i have something more important to discuss, please step aside.’ it seems to be a sad example of incredible ego, not intense fellowship.
please pray for Fr Pfegler and all other priests and parishioners who fail to appriciate the need to follow Him in His commandments for the liturgy which He gives thru the Church’s norms.

“This is my body and blood” is certainly illicit. However, it probably would be valid, providing the priest intended to change the bread and wine into Our Lord’s body and blood. I’d be very concerned about the intentions of such a priest. Changing the words of consecration is probably the most serious liturgical abuse imaginable. Where do they get these guys?

As long as the priest said, “This is my Body” and “This is my Blood” and intended to do as the Church teaches the sacrament is confected validly but it is certainly illicit.
