I haven’t even seen the movies that were up for awards, but the brief amount of time I watched made me want to see the movie “Lincoln”. Can anyone offer their reviews?
I saw it with my sister who is a senior in high school. We both really enjoyed it! I expected it to be a very dark film because of the Civil War, obviously, but it is more focused on the legislative process of passing the 13th Amendment and, of course, Lincoln. IMO, it was one of the best films I have ever seen. Spielberg was brilliant with the portrayals of the time and condition of society at the end of the war.

7 Sorrows, you mean you stopped watching at the very end when Michelle Obama was about to announce the Best Picture, simply because she was the presenter?
yes, meltzerboy. that is exactly what i mean. i cannot watch either michelle or her husband - even if he is our president. i don’t learn anything beneficial from them - just deceitfulness.

That may be true; but she wasn’t giving a political speech, merely announcing the Best Picture. Weren’t you curious after watching the rest of the show?

i thought her appearance was unnecessary and to me it was very political!!!

no, i figured Argo was going to win and i would hear about it the next day on radio or tv.

I saw it (figuratively; I had gone to bed long before the broadcast ended) as her way of thanking the Hollywood industry for all the help they gave in getting her husband re-elected.

that is how it appeared to me which made it political.

And that isn’t political? Totally fits my definition of a political motive.

  1. Tom Hanks doesn’t come into your living room via the television every day.
  2. Andy Griffith consistently portrayed a specific type of American character, a character many Americans can agree with, a character with simple old-fashioned American values that many people wish were more common.
Neither Tom Hanks nor any other movie actor can do this. There will not be “The Waltons: the Movie”. :bigyikes: :rotfl:

Hanks does when there is reruns of “Bosom Buddies” running on TV. And right now, Andy Griffith isn’t coming into my living room every day since none of the channels on my cable are broadcasting any Andy Griffith show.

Its obvious that you really love Andy Griffith and I liked him, but he’s not the end all be all of people that made nice family tv shows. He’s just one, not THE one.

Glad you enjoyed it. I didn’t see it, but 6 members of my family did and they all said they liked it. I wish it had won Best Picture.

I haven’t seen Bosom Buddies for many years and don’t even remember what it was about.

The TVLAND channel, formerly Nick at Night, shows two hours of Andy Griffith every day, along with I Love Lucy, Gunsmoke, Bonanza and lots of others.
TVLAND is included free in our basic, miser’s cheap-as-you-can-get Time Warner cable contract, so a lot of people in this country must get it.

The reason why they went from 5 to 9 nominations was because the film “The Dark Knight” didn’t get a nomination and many fans complained about that. So they decided to allow more nominations

Pretty pointless considering only 1 film is going to win it anyway. In my opinion they should instead return to a separate Award for “Best Production”.

The reason Argo easily won over Lincoln is partly because no one in Hollywood thought that Ben Affleck had any real talent due to his string of horrid B-Grade movies like Pearl Harbor. And it was probably a genuine surprise he had a film like that in him.

I didn’t watch any of it, mostly don’t care. However I did see the Today show gushing over Michelle Obama on the show. Why do we have to see an Obama every minute of every day? Give me a break already and go away.
i agree thomasf. i see one of my posts was suspiciously deleted where i voiced my disapproval of michelle obama on the show.
