I’m surprised at you, mary. Do you honestly think the Office of the Presidency can be cheapened any more than it already has been in the past 50 years? Besides, I CAN imagine Laura Bush being asked to do the same and consenting to do so. She strikes me as a wild woman beneath the reserved librarian facade!

I watched it. Best part was when Mark Wahlberg said he was Catholic. Representing the faith in front of the Godless audience in attendance 👍

Growing up, the family and I watched the Oscars, Rose Parade and Miss America pagent(Bert Parks era). I’ve lost interest viewing those events on tv a long time ago. I just watch the highlights on the local tv news.

Host - awful
Best Picture - Argo was excellent!
Best Supporting Actress- Anne Hathaway for Les Mis, great choice
Sitting at home making fun of dresses on the red carpet - priceless
Some of Seth’a work was good - especially the jokes toward the end about the show running so far overtime (eg ‘Emanuelle Riva was 9 when we started the show’ and ‘after the break we’re gonna start the 2014 Awards’)

Best speech was definitely Daniel Day-Lewis for mine, but Tarantino was good too.

Loved Shirley Bassey and Barbra Streisand 👍

The dresses? Always a laugh. I quite liked the look of Jennifer Lawrence’s, although it was so impractical to walk in. Anne Hathaway’s was disappointingly boring. Heidi Klum really looked a mess for such a stunningly beautiful woman.

Except for the Rose Parade, the Oscars and Miss America (with Bert Parks) were both musts with my family as well. Those were the days…

I think when I was a kid, the Oscars were pretty tame. Last night’s broadcast was rated TV14. I wish award shows were still clean. My young niece and nephew like to watch them.

Do you mean to say the title song of “Goldfinger” didn’t win?
“Goldfinger” wasn’t even nominated. The three previous Bond theme songs to be nominated were “Live and Let Die”, “Nobody Does it Better” (from The Spy who Loved Me) and “For Your Eyes Only”.

I haven’t even seen the movies that were up for awards, but the brief amount of time I watched made me want to see the movie “Lincoln”. Can anyone offer their reviews?

I haven’t seen it myself as I don’t go to the movies much (lack of money), but several of my family members saw it and they said it was excellent.

The host was boring and some of the ‘jokes’ were not funny. Happy Daniel Day Lewis won

Really?? I was quite embarrassed he had said he was Catholic and then proceeded to be a part of the joke with the animated bear. Yuck.

i was disappointed in the show this year and also disappointed in the host. i did see seth mcfarlane host saturday night live this year and he was funny, but i didn’t care for the “boob song” or many of his jokes.

when jack nicholson walked out on stage to present award for best movie i was thinking to myself i would have to endure his bit, but then the screen came down and i realized it was a live feed of michelle obama from the white house and i groaned and quit watching from that point.

i am sick of the obamas being shoved down our throat whenever we turn around. i know hollywood donated enormous sums of money to her husband’s campaign and this was her way of saying thank you and what can i do to “butter your slice of bread” in payback.

disgusting. i may never watch the oscars again. hollywood is too in love with itself.

7 Sorrows, you mean you stopped watching at the very end when Michelle Obama was about to announce the Best Picture, simply because she was the presenter?

I saw a little of the beginning and mainly the end when the awards for Best Actor, Actress, Director, and Picture were presented. I thought there were several tasteless jokes, and I don’t regard myself as a prude. What was the bit about Jews in Hollywood and making fun of the Christian Right? The host was rather boring: I preferred it when Billy Crystal was in charge and, way back, in the years when Bob Hope was master of ceremonies. I must admit I didn’t see any of the films but find it interesting that there are nine nominees today, as if there are so many great films that deserve to be nominated, compared to those of the past. I doubt it. The In Memoriam part was nice, with Barbra Streisand’s appearance and singing. All the nominated songs sounded horrible to me.
The In Memoriam segment has a habit of leaving people off the list. Threr was no mention of Andy Griffith on Sunday’s broadcast.

None of Griffith’s movies were that great,
but thanks to The Andy Griffith Show, 1960 - 1968, he has been on television through reruns continuously for 53 years. He got the Presidential Medal of Freedom in 2005.

The Academy had no excuse for leaving him out. Apparently they were jealous of his success in the hearts of the American people. Who loves Tom Cruise?

Why would the Academy be jealous of Andy Griffith’s success? I don’t think it was an intentional slight.

These Hollywood people are narcissists. That’s why they’re in the movie business. They want to be loved.

No movie star, no matter how successful, can ever be loved like an Andy Griffith.

That’s why. 😃

I was impressed by Seth MacFarlane’s dancing skills. And it always makes me happy to hear those old standards being performed.

Plus Captain Kirk making an appearance? Granted, the skit was not all that funny, but I will watch anything with William Shatner in it, including “Incubus.”

I was surprised by the critical reaction to MacFarlane as host; I mean, when a movie like “Django Unchained” is nominated for multiple oscars, how can you complain that the host is lowering the “tone” of the ceremony?
