Hi
A major newspaper ran a story about a farmer in a town I once lived in. The story was about a farmer who erected little crosses row upon row that resembled a graveyard. There was also a billboard stating these crosses represent the 1800 abortions that happen Canada wide each week… There is also a womens support line phone number included in the billboard. This farmers property runs parallel to the #1 freeway for all passerby"s to see.

So the story was prompted by a pro-abortion group that stated that this is offensive.
I was at work and a group of us were circled around the table during lunchtime. The same response was echoed by most who saw the story…what the farmer did was offensive to them.
I had to ask them if they thought the farmer was lying or making up a story. Of course they answered “no” but that he was infringing on women’s rights and to their privacy.
I answered that when they see heaps of Jewish corpses piled up by Nazi maniacs, did they find this offensive, and contrary to our personal rights. Of course! they found it offensive that someone could do that to another human being.
The irony is that it is the same situation, the brutal Nazi regime eliminated anyone who got in the way of their goals and dreams. My co-workers did not have anything to say, other than a zygote, fetus or baby is not really a “person”. history tells us that Jews,Poles,Russians,Gypsies and colored people had heard the same thing when it suited those people who were throwing the bodies of the “undesirables” and “subhumans” on the pile. This is a common antidote to fool our conscience since the beginning of time.

Next came the rationale that it really is not life, so it is different…oh really! I am not different than a zygote, I was a zygote genetically no different than I am now. . Scientists and cosmonauts are scouring the galaxy looking for simple signs of life, bacteria, simple cell structures, anything they can sieze to support extra terrestrial life. If they found a newly ferilized egg,or even a sperm or ovum cell on its own, this would make headlines across the globe as life does exist outside of our planet…buy is ignored or denied existing in our own world.
I am convinced that the issue is clouded by a TV reality that blurs reality from make-belief. It is not THAT real. Just like the populations surronding the German concentration camps, it is there but it is not reality happening.
So I shared my story that twice my mother made appointments for an abortion, but through confusion was not able to make it and was late.
Then I took out a picture of an aborted baby and all opinions stopped and the gasps replaced the excuses and denials…they identified themselves with the victim.
Sounds harsh and is not politically correct…but it is reality.
Keep up the fight!

You are amazing… I’m saving this post to share. Too often I am in a situation that I wish I could make the arguement that you have put down… I will print this and put in my pocket and be able to make the voices of the unborn heard…if I could make one person consider changing their mind about abortion and how they see it I would owe it all to you. Thank you for this post.

First of all, I too don’t approve of abortions.
But I don’t believe that it’s women who should be blamed and shamed; I believe the problem is much deeper - and higher.
In the zoo that we call Earth children have become an obstacle. A child can actually ruin their mother’s career and, if the mother has no-one else to rely on, they both end up in misery. In our zoo, “hopes and dreams” of women are only about themselves; everything and everyone else is a waste of time and money. These are 2 main reasons for abortions, but they are perceived as normal, the first one - even by you Christians. It’s liberalism, it’s capitalism, it’s free market, everyone fends for themselves. Abortions are not the problem, they are just another symptom of our societies’ morbid sickness. Women who do abortions are unhappy enough already; don’t add to it, it won’t help anything.

Amen…
But I don’t believe that it’s women who should be blamed and shamed;
It appears that you are not in the U.S. so I am sure there are cultural differences…but I know of no one who “blames or shames” women here. The blame and shame is too widespread to single out just one group.
I believe the problem is much deeper - and higher.
Agree
In the zoo that we call Earth children have become an obstacle.
This is horribly sad isn’t it???
A child can actually ruin their mother’s career and, if the mother has no-one else to rely on, they both end up in misery.
You begin to lose me here…“A child can ruin…”, just how could it be seen as the child’s fault?
In our zoo, “hopes and dreams” of women are only about themselves; everything and everyone else is a waste of time and money.
Indeed this is a very sad thing about modern society and it isn’t just restricted to the hopes and dreams of women.
These are 2 main reasons for abortions, but they are perceived as normal, the first one - even by you Christians. It’s liberalism, it’s capitalism, it’s free market, everyone fends for themselves. Abortions are not the problem, they are just another symptom of our societies’ morbid sickness.
Here again - you kind of lost me…what is it that we as Christians perceive as normal??
But yes - I do agree that abortions are a symptom of a deeper problem.
Women who do abortions are unhappy enough already; don’t add to it, it won’t help anything.
Again - the intent is not to shame the women who have abortions. In the OP, the farmer made a very broad and generic statement on the matter of abortion. It was a free speech statement pointing out what occurs…The objection of the OP’s co-workers that this violated the “women’s rights and to their privacy”, is ludicrous since the farmer named no names. The objections come because people prefer not to have their consciences pricked.

You have wisely stated above that abortions are a symptom…Yes they are…they are a symptom and the direct result *in the vast majority of cases) of promiscuity. Perhaps upwards of 90% of abortions could be avoided if people lived more chaste lives.
But I notice that if chastity is proposed, if sexual discipline is proposed, one receives rolling eyes and snickers and wry smiles followed by … well people aren’t going to do that … No - they prefer the murder of the innocent.

I think this is a marvelous post. I’ve been pro-life, actively (picket lines) for 30+ years and was part of a group that actually closed an abortion clinic on Long Island. “It’s not Human…” Ok WHAT IS IT then? It’s in the body of a Human being (woman), it was conceived by two Human beings…so, is it a bird? Is it a PLANE? Is it … well, you got it. “It’s a blob of tissue…” Ever see the ultrasound of an abortion procedure? That “blob of tissue” is ACTIVELY trying to avoid the scalpel, pulling away from it; so much for “it doesn’t feel pain”, too.

Abomination. If I were God, oh boy you’d be seeing a giant thumb comb out of the sky on a regular basis and squishing people left and right lol. One aspect of abortion that most people don’t seem to realize is its lifelong effect on the woman, herself. There are women who are tormented for their entire lives, there are women who even take their lives because of the horror and guilt they feel. There are women who are rendered sterile during the abortion; women who bleed out or show up in an ER days later with terrible infections that are not attributed to the abortion; women who cannot carry to term because the cervix has been damaged during dilation and curettage. For every unborn baby that is so murdered, there is another victim: the baby’s mother. The true “right” of every woman is to be free of this horror and guilt, to not buy the lie of society, and to realize that one must take responsibility for one’s decisions and actions. Is adoption a difficult choice to make? I could not have given up my infant but it’s a noble choice and there are thousands of loving couples waiting for babies! No excuse, ladies. No excuse.

GREAT JOB Ruthcloud!!!

👍

You did it just right, you made them think - then you got them to identify YOU with a potentially aborted victim - then you SHOWED THEM the actual photo of an aborted baby. Very good progression of events. Now, granted, some will reject the photo immediately, say it’s not real, etc. as a means of defense against actually seeing the horror. But you can always bring up the German people who were escorted through the Nazi prison camps and tried to turn their eyes away, even then, even when they could see very clearly what had happened.

Good for you!

Thanks guys.
The topic can be very heated if we let it go that way, our approach makes the difference, once we become angry and heated…no one is listening anymore. Then it becomes a waste of time.

The blame has to be on the pregnant woman who enters the abortion clinic and goes thru with it…while we can all understand the reasons why a person would want an abortion, the responsibility soley rests on the one carrying the child, and carrying out the deed.
An abusive husband is responsible for his actions…not the abused wife. The rapist is responsible for his actions, not the rape victim. The gunman who opens fire in an elementary school is to blame, not the teachers or victimized children.
We could all state that there was a deeper problem in each of these incidents, but the buck stops at the one who caused the hurt and pain…this is airtight.
So I am one that will blame the woman who graces the doors of an abortion clinic…who can I blame…the baby who got in the way?

It appears that you are not in the U.S. so I am sure there are cultural differences…but I know of no one who “blames or shames” women here. The blame and shame is too widespread to single out just one group.
With all dues respect, I am from Canada and as much as I think abortion is wrong, it can easily been seen as a statement that degrades women. Let me explain.

When do men say ‘That woman had an abortion, because the father of the child was not man enough to care for the child?’ When do men stand outside the strip bar praying for a society that is more chaste? When do men overhear locker room talk about how some girl is easy and ask the babbler mouth to ‘step outside’ so he can punch him out?

Why is it when a woman has an abortion they don’t find out who the father is and put him in jail for awhile? That would make men think twice before having sex

If men are not going to do their part in ensure women do not get pregnant outside of marriage, sadly, saying ‘abortion is wrong’ is in a way putting all the blame on the woman.

If men are not going to pay child support so the mother needs a cheque from the goverment to survive, it is a way of encouraging abortion since the woman does not have as many options

If men are not going to pay child support so the mother needs a cheque from the goverment to survive, it is a way of encouraging abortion since the woman does not have as many options
Men do face legal consequences and yes, sometimes even jail time, when they do not pay their court ordered child support.

Men and women have the option to wait to have sex for a time when they are mature, and responsible enough to welcome a child. People will not die if they don’t have sex.

With all dues respect, I am from Canada and as much as I think abortion is wrong, it can easily been seen as a statement that degrades women. Let me explain.
-There is no wiggle room on this…Let me explain
-One prime example again would be the extermination of the Jews by Nazi Germany, should we avoid any reference to Nazi horrors because it would be degrading to Germans.
-Should the media not report political scandals since it would degrade politicians?
-The examples are endless and this argument stalls on all four cylinders.
-This is a classic strawman argument…create a case based on something someone did not say…but this is not based on reality as many men would be critical of a deadbeat father.
-how many women stand outside a strip bar praying for a chaste society?..it goes both ways.
-My girlfriends talk about certain guys…no one punches them out.
Why is it when a woman has an abortion they don’t find out who the father is and put him in jail for awhile? That would make men think twice before having sex.
-Then what more would they have to do with the person who had sex AND and willingly aborted a helpless child. The womb should not be the most dangerous place on earth for a baby.
If men are not going to do their part in ensure women do not get pregnant outside of marriage, sadly, saying ‘abortion is wrong’ is in a way putting all the blame on the woman.
-it takes 2 people to become pregnant…not one. It takes both people to "maybe"ensure pregnancy outside or inside marriage does not happen. The only insurance of this not happening is to not have sex…this is an inescapable fact.
-stating that abortion is wrong does not place all the blame on the female…it is just a simple fact stating that abortion is wrong.
If men are not going to pay child support so the mother needs a cheque from the goverment to survive, it is a way of encouraging abortion since the woman does not have as many options
-Sounds like the fathers support is one option, the governments support a second option…how about another option… a woman can stand on her own two legs and support herself. Sounds like many options for the mother to survive…no options for the aborted.

All of your statements are based on the fact the couple is not together…this in itself is not rooted in reality. I knew a couple who made 130,000 a year and were married with no children and still had an abortion.
Your statements also are rooted in sexist overtones, the reality is that if I ever found myself in the abortionists stirrups…it would be my free choice to be there…no man has the power over me to convince me against my will as I am an equal, not mentally inferior. With equality comes accountability.

Great job Ruthcloud.

This is a subject very near and dear to my heart.

Many a time at work I have had to speak up and put forth my point. Many will say it is a woman’s choice. One Christian woman said to me I agree abortion is wrong but in case of rape it is OK…yikes I managed to convince her differently… Another person said if it is a Down’s syndrome child, it is OK to abort. OH MY GOSH, he did not have a chance, he got a mouthful. My 1st statement, since he has met my son, was “so you are saying that I should have killed my son 12 years ago” Yes, when I was pregnant did not know what tests the doctor sent me for, needless to say test came back with results saying that high possiblility of Downs Syndrome (stupid tests, had decided will never do again) and here I was sent for counselling and offered an abortion, further testing …We knew this was our baby no matter what and walked out of the hospital refusing further tests … Well we had a healthy normal baby (our only miracle child)

I find it amazing how mis-informed people are.

In recent years, I have made it a point to do -40 Days for Life ( praying outside an abortion clinic ), also Life Chain where we stand on city streets with Anti- Abortion signs and pray.
One thing I would really like to do is go to Ottawa in May for the ‘March for Life’. Last 2 years have been saying will do, but…

As a Toastmaster, I did my ‘persuasion with power’ speech on “Life is Precious” and covered Abortion and Euthanasia. At the end of the meeting, I had many come up to me and say ‘I did not know that.’

It is Life from Conception until Natural Death. Taking away Life is Murder.

Wow - A lot to think about…

It seems that my comment stirred a bit of reaction…but with all due respect it has been taken somewhat out of the context.
In The OP, the comment was made that the farmer’s action was offensive to women -
that…“he was infringing on women’s rights and to their privacy.

Now - I must admit that I remain at a loss to see what “right” the man infringed on…or who’s “privacy” he had violated…but that is what the OP said the response was among her co-workers.
What I saw in his action was two components. 1) A political and moral statement of fact on how many babies are aborted and 2) An advertisement for a group who could help those in need.

This then was my thinking when I read in Ziarra’s response…" I don’t believe that it’s women who should be blamed and shamed"…

Again - Since I had seen nothing in the farmers action as being directed AT women I could not see how it could be construed as being intended to blame and shame women (as a group). Hence my comment that it is not our intent to blame or shame women (meaning as a group).
If we were seeking to “blame and shame” it would beto blame and shame those who favor abortion be they men or women. The blame is not intended to be gender specific. It seems I should have been more clear on this.

The bottom line is that the farmer in the OP news story was not out to “blame and shame” women or to violate their privacy - or to restrict their rights.
These are arguments to deflect the conversation away from the facts - and THAT is what the farmer presented - FACTS.
Not Blame -
Not Shame -
and
Not pointed at a specific gender group.

So - While I thank the posters who have commented on my statement and think that good points have been made - I will stand by said comment in the context in which it was made.
There is no intention, at least by me, to “blame” or to “shame” women - I have no problem at all blaming pro-abortion people of either gender. I am less comfortable with shame as a tool because I don’t think it is as helpful in converting “pro-choice” people into “pro-life” people.

I hope this helps clarify my earlier comment.

Peace
James

A great deal of conversation, some of it excellent, some of it a tad outrageous and unnecessarily angry.

To wait until one is “mature” and to not “have sex”…what a disingenuous statement. I was 39 years old when I got pregnant. Single. Unexpected. Not once did the thought pass through my mind to end that precious life. I recognized it for what it was: a gift from God. I didn’t even have an amniocentesis, much to the horror of my OB/GYN. I said, “I will take whatever God gives me”. And, trust me, I did. I am. I will, for the rest of my life.

Women do not conceive children by themselves unless they go into AI clinics (even then, some man had to donate the sperm). Men must take responsibility for contraception, also, and I can honestly say that not once in my lifetime as a mature, world traveled woman did any man ever do that, or even ask the question “Are you using birth control?” To expect full grown adults to remain chaste is just not realistic, no matter how much we love God and wish to honor Him and please Him. A woman walks into an abortion clinic for a great many reasons, some being parental pressure, outright terror, the fact that women are still paid below the pay scale of men and supporting oneself is hard enough, let alone a child; many reasons. I do not point a finger at any woman who finds herself in that situation since I know that this is, if one is emotionally healthy, the most tragic and difficult of decisions. Few women waltz into abortion clinics with a smile on their face; most agonize, before, during, after. No. We cannot blame the woman any more than we can blame the man who decides it’s not his “job” to use contraception. A Godless society, a society where life is cheap and has little value, a society without personal integrity - party to blame.

I think what we need to do is pray. We must ask God to forgive us for this abomination which we allow among us. Frankly, I don’t know how He continues to hold back His wrath for the slaughter of millions of innocents and I wonder for how long He will continue to do so. It’s a Truth that we, in our humanity, cannot possibly know God; we can attempt to understand Him; we can strive to please Him; we can follow rules and regulations and repent and ask for His mercy - after all, are we not created by Him? Is He unable to comprehend, at a depth we do not, our experience(s) here, in this place, in these bodies? Perhaps these innocents are, in fact, the “lucky” ones: roundtrip to heaven, after all. It is life that is painful, frightening, punishing, disappointing, painful - notwithstanding its positive aspects. Death is none of those things. We don’t really know what Death is. Personally, I plan to follow Jesus around for a few million years. I can see Him hiding a smile as He sees me tagging along, yet again. Oh how I hope that’s true. Meanwhile, love one another. Embrace the girl or adult woman who has done the unthinkable: murdered her own child. We cannot know, only God knows, what goes on in her heart. It’s trite, and it’s been used over and over in snide and sarcastic ways, but it’s a legitimate question: what would Jesus do?

I’m not sure if you’re insinuating that my comment or someone else’s was outrageous and angry. But you have called me disingenuous. I don’t think questioning my sincerity on the issue matters. The fact is single people are called to celibacy, they should not be having sex. This is what I was attempting to say. If your feelings were hurt from what I said, I offer my apologies, that wasn’t my intention at all.

edited to add: By single I mean unmarried.

You have some good statements but this, I most definitely disagree with. You are reducing people to the level of animals when you say it is impossible to remain chaste if unmarried. That, too, is a choice, a choice to sin, and it is certainly realistic to expect full grown adults to fight the temptation to sin.

Great post Ruthcloud! Thank you for sharing!!!

I wish we could put your OP into every parish bulletin in North America.

It would make for some very interesting reading and discussions for many Catholic families that publicly support (or at least fail speak out) against abortion and the modern massacre of the innocents.

God Bless!

The issue of who is responsible for contraception, and sex before marriage is a seperate issue from abortion, usually this is a subject that is past tense when a woman makes the appointment at the clinic.
I think praying is very helpfull as a believer, but actions are an answer to prayer, as we are Christ’s tools for His love.
Think about this for a moment, instead of holding a sign that says don’t have an abortion, why not have a sign that says “I will take care of your baby”. Our churches are empty 5 days a week, why not organize a workable rational solution to the problem. Have a daycare based on volunteers that take care of the need and calms the fears. The church (us) is neglecting its historical role in helping the needy, and is again empty except on a few occasions. This would transform the emptying pews in a generation and save lives and souls. Planned parenthood is offering a solution to the problem…we are not doing the same.
Food for thought.

Most abortion-minded women would not believe such a sign. If we can get them to go into a crisis pregnancy center or a mobile ultrasound bus, THEN we can show them that there are many resources to help them carry their baby to term and either keep it or give it up for adoption. The mindset of an abortion-minded woman is that no one is truly helping her except the abortion provider. It is what she is being told from all quarters. It is perhaps what she WANTS to believe.

I don’t believe the church is neglecting its historical role in helping the needy. I see so many programs for not only pregnant women, but for clothing, shelter, food, etc. Is it enough? No probably not. Can we do more? Of course we could. There are so, so many people out there working so, so hard to help others. I see this as a slap in the face to them.

-There is no wiggle room on this…Let me explain
-One prime example again would be the extermination of the Jews by Nazi Germany, should we avoid any reference to Nazi horrors because it would be degrading to Germans.
-Should the media not report political scandals since it would degrade politicians?
-The examples are endless and this argument stalls on all four cylinders…
This is a good point. Thank you for bringing it up
-This is a classic strawman argument…create a case based on something someone did not say…but this is not based on reality as many men would be critical of a deadbeat father…
Sadly, many men complain about paying child support and talk as if it is unfair to them and all their friends in the same boat. Some men are critical of dead beat fathers but not enough are.
how many women stand outside a strip bar praying for a chaste society?..it goes both ways.
Agreed woman should pray about this too. However, it is hypocritical of men to allow the degradation of women and then say abortion is wrong
-My girlfriends talk about certain guys…no one punches them out…
Well… your girlfriends should be told their talk is innappropriate. Nonetheless, these women could never get a man pregnant so it is not exactly the same
-Then what more would they have to do with the person who had sex AND and willingly aborted a helpless child. The womb should not be the most dangerous place on earth for a baby. …
I am not sure what you are getting at here. But I do agree children should not be aborted
I agree it takes two people. That is why if we concentrated on bringing chasity back into society, the whole abortion problem would go away on its own.
-Sounds like the fathers support is one option, the governments support a second option…how about another option… a woman can stand on her own two legs and support herself. Sounds like many options for the mother to survive…no options for the aborted…
Yes woman have options. But it doesn’t change the fact that being a single mom is very hard and the less father’s help, the more they make the temptation to abort stronger
  • All of your statements are based on the fact the couple is not together…this in itself is not rooted in reality. I knew a couple who made 130,000 a year and were married with no children and still had an abortion…
Yes, I was thinking of single women having abortions. And yes I agree the couple who was making 130,000 was very selfish to abort
  • Your statements also are rooted in sexist overtones, the reality is that if I ever found myself in the abortionists stirrups…it would be my free choice to be there…no man has the power over me to convince me against my will as I am an equal, not mentally inferior. With equality comes accountability.
When did I ever say women were mentality inferior? A fact is a fact, God created the process of having children in such a way it takes a man and a woman because it also takes a man and a woman to bring a child up. There are a lot of excellent single parents out there, but it is still a very hard thing to do.

I think abortion is wrong. I am just saying I think the way to go about stopping it is to get rid of the message premarital sex is OK. And also, to start making men take responsibility
