Does he still love the mirror?
No, he had a major stroke and is now on a feeding tube. Good looks, good health are fleeting. Pride and vanity follow us to the grave unless we strive to for the promises of God. Yes, it is a life-long quest and it is not always an easy road to navigate, but try anyway. PS, he wouldn’t take his BP meds because he was too prideful.

Damn. This is awfully sad. I am sorry. I hope we gets better. Life is a trip.

Why is God so harsh to people who try to follow him the most earnestly? I do not understand.
St. Teresa of Avila had an amusing response to this:

As she founded and visited convents, Teresa often traveled the rugged roads of Spain. One time her saddle slipped, and she found herself head down under the belly of a donkey as she crossed a stream. Complaining to the Lord of her treatment, she heard him reply, “Teresa, whom the Lord loves, he chastises. This is how I treat all my friends.” She replied tartly, “No wonder you have so few!”

11My son, do not reject the discipline of the LORD Or loathe His reproof, 12For whom the LORD loves He reproves, Even as a father corrects the son in whom he delights.Prov 3:21

24He who withholds his rod hates his son, But he who loves him disciplines him diligently. Prov 13:24

…5and you have forgotten the exhortation which is addressed to you as sons, “MY SON, DO NOT REGARD LIGHTLY THE DISCIPLINE OF THE LORD, NOR FAINT WHEN YOU ARE REPROVED BY HIM; 6FOR THOSE WHOM THE LORD LOVES HE DISCIPLINES, AND HE SCOURGES EVERY SON WHOM HE RECEIVES.” 7It is for discipline that you endure; God deals with you as with sons; for what son is there whom his father does not discipline?…Heb 12:6

…16but if anyone suffers as a Christian, he is not to be ashamed, but is to glorify God in this name. 17For it is time for judgment to begin with the household of God; and if it begins with us first, what will be the outcome for those who do not obey the gospel of God? 18AND IF IT IS WITH DIFFICULTY THAT THE RIGHTEOUS IS SAVED, WHAT WILL BECOME OF THE GODLESS MAN AND THE SINNER?… 1 Pet. 4:17
