I’ve never noticed that Catholics have a monopoly on bad behavior.I agree… I hope many of your Catholic friends here agree with your statement…it seems many do not.

I know plenty of ex-seminarians, and although I don’t know what actually goes on in the first year of Seminary, what I do know is, those guys didn’t come out of there knowing very much more about their faith than when they went in - and what I’m told about what they know going in, is that our Vocations Director has to make them live together and learn basic things like morning and evening prayer (not just the Liturgy of the Hours, but even the Guardian Angel prayer, and “Good Morning, Jesus”, etc.), the Rosary, the order of the Books of the Bible, about the real presence of Jesus in the Tabernacle, why you genuflect, and stuff like that, that they should have learned in kindergarten and elementary school, if they attended Catholic schools. But they go in there so very poorly catechized to start with, and if they drop out, it’s usually because they’re failing - which means that they still don’t know anything about how to be a Catholic.non-Catholic, yes, but FORMER Catholic, more importantly, ex-seminarian, so yes, I think I came more than knowledgeable enough to discuss it with you.
you know plenty, yet proceed on nothing but assumptions…maybe they get it, and thats why they leave!I know plenty of ex-seminarians, and although I don’t know what actually goes on in the first year of Seminary, what I do know is, those guys didn’t come out of there knowing very much more about their faith than when they went in - and what I’m told about what they know going in, is that our Vocations Director has to make them live together and learn basic things like morning and evening prayer (not just the Liturgy of the Hours, but even the Guardian Angel prayer, and “Good Morning, Jesus”, etc.), the Rosary, the order of the Books of the Bible, about the real presence of Jesus in the Tabernacle, why you genuflect, and stuff like that, that they should have learned in kindergarten and elementary school, if they attended Catholic schools. So, not a big surprise if they don’t “get it,” and move on to something that seems a lot easier, by appearances.
No, actually most of them stay, and then they come to my Bible study (which is pretty elementary stuff; I have an Arts degree, not a Theology degree) and they say, “Wow, I never knew that before!”you know plenty, yet proceed on nothing but assumptions…maybe they get it, and thats why they leave!
well if your seminaries are that weak, what does that say about your institution? I wouldnt brag about that if I were you!No, actually most of them stay, and then they come to my Bible study (which is pretty elementary stuff; I have an Arts degree, not a Theology degree) and they say, “Wow, I never knew that before!”
Now, either I’m a genius without realizing it (which I strongly doubt, and I know you’ll agree) or else they didn’t learn much in Seminary. You pick.![]()
It has nothing to do with the weakness of the seminary or the Church if people do not absorb what they’re taught.well if your seminaries are that weak, what does that say about your institution? I wouldnt brag about that if I were you!
you’re kidding right? So his statement that they didnt learn anything in seminary is their fault? Wow, you guys pass Kool-Aid around in here too?It has nothing to do with the weakness of the seminary or the Church if people do not absorb what they’re taught.
A seminary is a learning institution. It does not mean anyone who goes in must come out an Einstein. Just as in school, people fall asleep during classes or pay very little attention to the lecturers.well if your seminaries are that weak, what does that say about your institution? Remember, I was not the one who made the original statement…it was one of your own.A seminary is a learning institution. It does not mean anyone who goes in must come out an Einstein. Just as in school, people fall asleep during classes or pay very little attention to the lecturers.
Many of the world’s greatest leaders/entrepreneurs studied in Catholic institutions. If it was as bad as you think, such institutions would have shut down long ago. Also, if people like Warren Buffet can choose to donate millions into a Catholic institution, what does that tell you? An Atheist prefers Catholic learning centers over Protestant ones. Hmmm. I wonder what his reason must be. You may think the worst, of course.
Not kidding at all. In order to learn something, one must be teachable and willing to learn, not just keep something in the brain long enough to regurgitate it for a test.you’re kidding right? So his statement that they didnt learn anything in seminary is their fault?
Nope, this is a Catholic forum and Catholics don’t drink Kool-aide, we drink wine.Wow, you guys pass Kool-Aid around in here too?

I did mention Warren Buffet is an Atheist, did i not? How he defines morality is not the concern here. I am not interested in derailing the point and its obvious no Catholic agrees with his personal opinions on moral issues. It is why he preferred donating millions to a Catholic institution when he could have easily donated it to Protestant institutions is the real question here.Remember, I was not the one who made the original statement…it was one of your own.
As far was Buffet, do you really want to use that as an example on your behalf?

I suppose this was never meant as an insult of course. Otherwise, this would indeed undermine your intellectual capabilities.and plenty of it it seems!
It seems from what I posted that he spread it around pretty widely. I would look for another example. And by the way, if his morality is so questionable, should the moral thing for the Catholic institution to do be to not accept his donation? Hmm…Seems all is well when it comes to the money.I did mention Warren Buffet is an Atheist, did i not? How he defines morality is not the concern here. No, but a poor attempt at humor, for which I do apologize.I suppose this was never meant as an insult of course. Otherwise, this would indeed undermine your intellectual capabilities.
People pour donations from everywhere. How do you know when someone offers a donation in church is actually a sinner or a saint? Naturally, you would accept it with a token of grattitude. Judging the donors actions and moral ethics is up to God alone. For only He can see and know things we possibly wouldn’t know about. Unless of course you are Matt Parkman from the TV series Heroes. It seems from what I posted that he spread it around pretty widely. I would look for another example. Well you seemed to know enough to comment about it, but they dont? That is a WEAK defense, brother.People pour donations from everywhere.
