Accidental Desecration of a Sacramental

Hi there,

I’m looking for answers because I think I may have accidentally desecrated a sacramental. I don’t think I am being scrupulous, but I’m also not sure. I was wondering. How exactly does a desecration of a sacramental occur? When I googled this and looked through The Catechism of the Catholic Church, I couldn’t find any specific examples of what an actual desecration of a sacramental is. Maybe I’m being overly cautious or what, I am not sure. I want to be certain that this isn’t the case. Please be kind in your responses.
 
What did you do?

If it was truly accidental then there is no fault. If you were negligent then go to a priest and confess.
 
I would rather not go into detail, but it was truly accidental.
 
Fair enough. If you were truly not intending any desecration and were not negligent, then there is no fault and arguably no desecration. However, if you feel the need to let someone know about ot then tell a priest. A priest once told me that within 3 or 4 months of hearing Confession he will have heard just about everything you can imagine and more, so never be embarassed or afraid to talk to a priest because they have seen it all.
 
Again maybe this is me being scrupulous, but could you give me some examples of negligence?
 
Well I suppose if you were messing around and dropped something, or were intentionally focusing on something else (not a truly accidental slip of the mind but actively not paying attention), or if you were showing off to someone and you broke something or dropped something, or if you were doing something bad and that unintentionally lead to a desecration.

If you were making an honest effort to be careful then you’re fine. And it would only rise to serious level if you actively tried to desecrate something or if you were being very negligent.
 
You answered your own question by stating what ever it is you did, was an accident.

You are asking total strangers, including an influx of apparent trolls here at CAF, to be kind. Ask Father for a genuine, kind answer.
 
I’m sorry. I’m still new at this. I didn’t know there was an option to ask a priest otherwise, I would have probably done that. As far as trolls and strangers go, it never hurts to ask someone to be kind.
 
Going to go out on a limb here.

Let’s say I left my rosary in my pocket and ran it through the washing machine. Accident, no harm no foul, repair it if broken and keep using it.

On the other end of the spectrum, I left my rosary in my pocket and it fell out and into the toilet! Again, accident, no sin at all. You can bury or burn the rosary to dispose of it in a reverent manner. If it already went down the drain, that was an accident and there is nothing to fret about.
