Smart phones are an obligatory and essential tool for many careers today. Good luck telling your boss “sorry, I can’t have a phone because it’s too big of a temptation for porn.”

But yes, some people should perhaps give up their phone if it’s an issue and they don’t truly need it for essential functions.

I work with youth and lots of boys get addicted at age 10 to 12!
I found a magazine at around 13 or 14. It was just nudity, but it didn’t matter, it was off to the races for me. It might has well have been powder on a mirror. I lost years and years to that addiction. So much time wasted, time that could have been spent doing wonderful things.

I guess what matters is that it is gone. I pray for others to break free from this dreadful damaging addiction.

I wonder if discovering pornography during early adolescence does something physically to the brain wiring.

At adolescence, with hormones surging for the first time while psychological and neurological maturity is not all there, add to that pornography, and it’s like lighting up dynamite. It can be very destructive.

Porn definitely effects the brain. There is a Ted Talk that explains it.

It can and porn addiction (as well as any other) destroys gray matter in brain. It needs 18 months for brain to recover in physical sense but in psychologocal, where memories are strong and pictures are very alive, it takes much longer if those scenes ever go away. Of course, once when addiction stops person controls herself and avoids it as much as possible. Even when pictures in head stay it doesn’t matter if it pops up, most important is not to accept temptations, avoid occasions for sins and grow in spiritual life.
Physical addiction lasts 6-8 weeks when once stopped. I don’t know if used my words right here. Maybe better to say physical abstinence crysis.

There are also many, many women addicted to pornography
I noticed this comment was ignored…it is absolutely true. The Church does women a great disservice by ignoring this fact.

As far as sex worker/film star exploitation, this happens, but amateur porn is increasingly popular and easily accessible.

I think that Church doesn’t ignore that fact but it is popular opinion amongst many people - Catholics or not - that just men are porn addicts or that only they can have sexual addiction. And many women are ashamed to talk about their addiction, more than men.
Thanks God there are women - ex addicts who talk about addiction (which wasn’t usual in past) and help especially girls and women.

Porn affects whole family. Man addicted to porn hurts wife and children, himself and society. Porn destroys family and marriage, not just porn but all sexual addictions. Same is with woman. That isn’t just problem of individual.

Before there was “technology” in the media sense, there were girlie magazines. Get rid of the press, right? Who needs the Bible in affordable form?

Before the press, there was written (literary) porn. Get rid of literacy? They lived without it nine-hundred years ago?

Before widespread literacy, there were suggestive works of art. Bomb all the museums?

You see where this leads?

I don’t sympathize either with porn makers or with those who feel they need it to assuage sexual feelings. But I can’t accept that because of it we need to go back to the “simple life.” All periods in human life are caked with sin.

I would severely doubt there are sexual needs in Heaven. Possibly no needs at all.

Yes ebooks and there are some books with larger font. I dread the day when I can no longer see the written word.

I wish you well.
