You know I could see this coming is anyone really surprised?Beastiality will be next and unless PETA stop them:nope:

In the article mentioned the ACLU chief states:The ACLU chief said her organization defends “the freedom of choice for mature, consenting individuals,” making it “the guardian of liberty … defend[ing] the fundamental rights of all people.”

Hmm…do they not realize that most people that practice polygamy marry underage girls???How are these girls mature or consenting individuals???

 Oh my gosh…

Something needs to be done in the USA!!!

Sen. Rick Santorum called it right after the Supreme Court struck down the sodomy law here in Texas.

Obviously polygamy is a logical option based on the court’s reasoning in that case, and going all the way back to Griswold v Conneticut, which invented the “right to privacy” and legalized contraception.

And people accused Santorum of being a sensationalist.

Hmmm…I called him “right”.

I saw this also. I am not surprised. its part of the slippery slope.

ACLU defends polygamy
Legal group backs ‘freedom of choice’

June 25, 2005
WorldNetDaily

The president of the American Civil Liberties Union says polygamy is among the “fundamental rights” that her organization will continue to defend.

During a question-and-answer session after a speech at Yale University, ACLU president Nadine Strossen stated that her organization has “defended the right of individuals to engage in polygamy,” reported AgapePress, noting that the comments cited by the Yale Daily News received little attention . . . ACLU fights school board’s prayers
Louisiana panel has been invoking God before meetings for 30 years

    June 23, 2005
    WorldNetDaily

A school board is battling the ACLU in court for the right to open its meetings with prayers that invoke “God,” “Heavenly Father,” and “Jesus.”

The Tangipahoa Parish School Board in Louisiana is appealing a federal judge’s ruling that such prayers violated the Establishment Clause of the United States Constitution, which says “Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion” . . . [Click for more]

Battle brews between Boy Scouts, ACLU
Issue is use of public buildings

June 21, 2005
WESH 2 News

APOPKA, Fla. – There’s a battle brewing between the American Civil Liberties Union and the Boy Scouts of America. It’s a dispute that has public schools and other government agencies caught in the middle and potentially facing lawsuits, WESH 2 News reported.

For many years, schools have sponsored Boy Scout troops and Cub Scout packs and provided space for them to hold meetings and activities, but the ACLU is now threatening to sue individual schools and school districts if they continue to sponsor the scouts . . . [Click for more]

You do realize that there is nothing in the founding of this nation that made it Christian. Jefferson definitely wasn’t and probably wasn’t. You folks do realize what major world competitor religion allows four wives? Do you want to fire up terroists by stating they cannot live here. True it an be asked where does it stop, human sacrifice. Yet I had a pert little Protestant girl tell me how Catholics practice cannibalism. I’m sure if that little church of her’s had their way Catholics would be back with the 1850’s and told to get out.

I am not saying I like Mormon polygamy or Islamic polygamy. The lasws against it are long standing. I am simply saying are we going to get like France and ban veils in schools for Muslim girls? In effect France is asserting its Catholic cultural heritage at every turn. These abstractions such as “polygamy” have real world roots in places such as the Islamic world. There are implications in issues of world tension to outright say your world view is wrong and we are going to use the full force of the law to battle it. Because I am certain in their all influential press if we make an issue of saying something is wrong here, it will fire up radicals who will tell the people we will extend these rulings to their countries. The choices aren’t easy, but confrontation breeds terroism. After all the deepest question is why is Islam so widely embraced and Catholic Christianity and after thought. In places such as Saudi Arabia it is ingrained in the culture. However, in other areas we are not making the converts. Converting souls is the way to end the practice of polygamy, not contentious legal fiat.

I certainly hope no one believes I am supporting polygamy rather I am arguing that if we provide fuel to fires one or more of our cities may dissapear or be poisoned. We are talking about telling very proud real people they are immoral. There is great risk in that.

Sadowa,I hear what your saying but right now it is polygamy and if they get their war child rape will be legal and so will anything anti-Christian.If our Priest speak the truth from the pulpit they will be sued or arrested for a hate crime. We are heading in a bad direction:nope:

France is not practicing its Catholic heritage but it secular one. In article after article France has supported its decision to ban the Muslim veil by stating that it is a secular country. It is ironic that here in America, a basically Christian country, no one is talking about banning Muslim school girls’ right to wear veils in public schools. I would be the first to fight against such a ban. I believe, but I am not certain, that French public school children aren’t allowed to wear crosses to school either.

The above link is an article on the headscarf issue which was touched on in this thread. Not only would France outlaw headscarves, but Jewish skullcaps and large crosses. Little medals are allowed. France is an extreme example of secularism.

Deb1 is right that what France is really imposing is their short heritage of secularism dating from the “Enlightenment.” (The Enlightenment being so enlightened that it led to the Reign of Terror.) France, along with much of Europe is doing all it can to discard it’s Christian heritage.

Possibly the rulings against head scarves and religious symbols is an attempt to pre-empt any move by French Muslims for the implementation of Shar’ia law. In Canada, Muslims have been lobbying for an exemption from Canadian law so that Shar’ia law can be the sole rule of law within the Islamic community.

The ACLU’s defense of polygamy is a logical extension of the legalization of sodomy. If all sexual expression has equal rights, why not polygamy? Why not pederasty? If pederasty is legalized will convicted child molesters be owed an apology and compensation?

Honestly, this doesn’t surprise me. With the way the ACLU was going, I knew this would have to happen eventaully. It’s still difficult to see it happen, though. I wonder when it will end, and where.

When a group passionately fights the boy scouts, but defends pedophiles and child rapists at the NAMBLA, how can anyone support the ACLU?

If the ACLU targeted me, I’d consider it a badge of honor–if they like you, you are most likely evil; and if they hate you, you must be doing something right.

The ACLU needs to be destroyed.

I like what Michael Savage said: The ACLU should be indicted in RICO charges and its assets seized.

Unfortunately that was used against pro-lifers, so it is not likely to be used against the ACLU.
