Act of Settlement is blatantly anti-Catholic
THE SPOKESMAN for the Catholic Church in Scotland has welcomed First Minister Alex Salmond’s response over allowing Catholics ascension to the Royal Throne.

Peter Kearney had said that the law that bars Catholics from ascending to the throne was “nothing but State-sponsored sectarianism”.

According to Kearney, the Act of Settlement is “demonstra-bly sectarian and anti-Catholic”.

“In the modern era, all forms of discrimination have been outlawed, whether that is race or age. This act, however, flies in the face of all that, and cannot be allowed to continue.”

Yes, indeed it was state-sponsored sectarianism, enacted in a state with a state church headed by the head of state. And until that state ceases to state-sponsor sectarianism, it will be, intrinsically, an anti-Catholic state.

If and when the state church in that state becomes disestablished, and there’s some discussion of doing that, it may have a claim to being non-discriminatory with reference to religion.

The Anglican communion is in full meltdown. The Queen’s tacit approval of cohabitation (re: the impending wedding of her grandson) ought to throw more fuel on the fire consuming the Anglicans. Catholicism is now the predominant religion with backsides in the pews, not because of stellar attendance by Catholics, but due to the collapse of Anglicanism. Practitioners of Islam will probably pass the number of practicing Catholics in the near future.
