Since “the end of time” is a known future event of which we are certain, being when the paraousia and the General Judgment will occur, and is followed by our continued existence either in heaven with the blessed or in hell, is it permissible for the celebrant to append the phrase “from now until the end of time” onto the doxology which follows the embolism after the Lord’s Prayer? I believe it is not permissible: since we believe God’s kingdom, power, and glory “have no end” (Creed) we would thus be praying a lie.

As far as I know, the prayers of the Mass are to have nothing added or taken away. However, if I heard this happen, I wouldn’t make a fuss. There are much bigger abuses that happen in this country. That’s a pretty minor issue.

The rubrics do not all for modification at that point. There are a few places where the rubrics state “this or similar words” and this is not a place where it is allowed.

Michael, you are correct – there are worse abuses. But “minor”? Maybe – I see you are involved somehow with music. The offending words are from “The Seven Signs” song collection from WLP. Father loves them – so much that we never have any other music, not even a different memorial acclamation (another ‘abuse’ (?) but not really). Lovely expressive music. BUT the problem is that it is not minor for me. I refuse to pray those words, because I do believe God’s sovereignty never ends, and I am having a problem of conscience with our music, video screens, and pastor leading me/us to do so. Inaestimablile Donum says the faithful have a right to the true Mass, and also that a first progression toward worse abuses is evidenced by the loss of Lex Orandi Lex Credendi – ie: we pray what we believe.

C’mon! No one enforces the Novus Ordo ruberics anymore. It’s a waste of time even talking about it. The worst offenders even get promotions, like Fr. Giel in the Orlando diocese. Take a look at a program called “CCTN” if you get the chance. There are a parts where he basically ad-libs certain parts.

So, Eddie, you want to define what is correct only based on what is enforced? Well, yeah, it may be wasting time – but I have heard that said about prayer. The worst offenders get promoted – just like at the office: it follows that supervisors and bishops are human and make mistakes. No surprise there. Eddie, you are saying that even though it is wrong then nothing should be done about it, because the world is corrupt, certain people you know of are corrupt, and it is a waste of time to try to change things for the better. Do you apply this same standard to areas of your life other than religion? And you vote? On moral issues, I mean – your vote influences the legality of things like abortion, and our society’s caring for the poor, and such-like? And if you don’t apply this same standard: Why not?
