Whoa there. We spend good money, but it is done very unevenly. You know and I know where the good and well funded schools are. You people spend money to live in an area where there are well funded schools. More than that you know the poorly funded schools are in the poor areas. There are also many other factors working against poor kids. They tend to live in more abusive or unstable family conditions. Studies have shown this kind environment tends to make young minds develop in a way that diverts their attention to everything going on around them. This makes it more difficult to divert their attention to learning tasks in front of them.We spend more than average on the secondary and primary levels and kids still leave high school semi-literate.
Also, not to nitpick, but a lot of Vietnam troops were conscripts who weren’t exactly chomping at the bit.The fact is, the Vietnam vets I knew were willing to serve their country at full risk to themselves. That should be emphasized.
