Adoption or Tubal Reversal?

We were in the same boat, my husband had a vasectomy when we were cafetera Catholics. We choose to adopt and were able to adopt 2 children.
Then he changed jobs. Much to our amazement our new insurance covered 75% of the cost of the reversal.We were doing it to right a wrong not because we wanted more bio kids… well we have concieved 3 times but sadly miscarried each time. But the Lord blessed us with 2 more adopted children (after the reversal.)
I can tell you this adoption is a huge blessing, I would love to adopt more!!!

My opinion, go to confession (if you haven’t already) then adopt. Both options are noble and holy, no matter which you choose. But, take this example, which is similar, but obviously not caused by a choice of wrong doing. A couple suffer years of fertility issues. They spend thousands of dollars trying to correct those issues. They end up having little or no success. They end up unable to afford their once dream of adopting should the treatments not work out. They are heart broken, cause now they are right where they started off, without child. You, also, could spend thousands of dollars trying to get the problem fixed, and fail. You would be out that money, and not be able to pursue your dream of adoption after it’s failure. You’d not only be broke, but miserable without a child you’ve been hoping for. However, just like the couple with fertility troubles could be healed and have a successful treatment and a future biological family through them, so to, could you have a successful reversal procedure, and be able to conceive and bear another darling. Personally, if you feel called to adopt, I would. Again, while both decisions are honorable, and this is not a “right” or “wrong” decision, I believe adoption to be the best and most economical choice for the increase of your family size.

According to the Couple to Couple League, up to 70% of women requesting tubal reversal are turned away because their tubes are so badly damaged that it would not be possible to reverse it. Before you spend more time agonizing over this decision, perhaps have a consultation with a doctor and see if you would even be a candidate for this surgery to begin with. This way you don’t get your hopes up for a future pregnancy plus it may make the decision to adopt easier if one of your choices is taken away from the start. Now you may also get good news, and that would need further consideration.

I know this is an old thread, but since it’s been brought back up, I must put in another vote for adoption! Adopting our daughter has been the best thing that ever happened to our family. There are so many kids out there that need homes, anyone who is in this situation should really consider adoption instead of a surgery that may or may not work.
