I will be attending Adoration tomorrow for the first time, so what should I wear?

Thanks

GOD BLESS YOU!

My humble opinion is, is that’s is so much more important that you are there spending time with our Lord.

Wear whatever you would wear to Mass. Remember, you are going to see JESUS. At my parish most people wear regular clothes. Nothing disrespectful though…

When I was working I used to go to adoration in my scrubs…🤷

Something you can kneel down in comfortably. 🙂

Don’t forget to bring a Rosary and some spiritual reading with you, as well, especially if you are staying for the full hour.

I wear whatever I happen to be wearing. 🙂 I don’t dress up, sometimes I’m in tidy jeans and a tee-shirt, etc.

God bless you, and I hope you enjoy your quiet time with Our Eucharistic Lord.

We have perpetual adoration at my church and everyone just wears regular clothes. I like to wear pants because most of us kneel down and then bow to Him on the carpet when we come into the chapel. I don’t think anyone is thinking about what people are wearing. I am so thankful to be able to go and be with Him any hour of the day or night. I only live about 1/2 mile away from our church. God bless.

I pretty much wear what I would wear to mass. I’ve seen others in jeans and some in dress pants and button down the front shirts. Dress comfortably.

Wear a smile! Remember the Pope calls Eucharistic Adoration a extension of the Mass!

What you would normally wear to church. If you are coming from work wear whatever you wore to work, even if it is blue collar. If you are in your running around town mom clothes, wear that if you don’t have time to go home. Unless you spent the day at the beach, wear what you have on that day. I like to have slacks or a longer skirt I can kneel on (if it is one the days I am able to kneel)

correction looking at moms dropping off kids at school, if your mommy look is shorts and skimpy top, throw a sweater and pull up skirt in the car for church.

We also have perpetual adoration, and I can tell you for sure, nobody dresses up, particularly during the hours from 9pm to 6am. They sometimes wear sweatpants and casual clothing; during the day people wear whatever they normally wear during that hour of the day.

The consensus here seems to be to wear what one is already wearing that day. That’s what I usually do. But is it the best or the right thing to do? Should we not only dress modestly, but wear clothes that are a little nicer than normal? Many Catholics today are too casual about Mass, especially during the summer. Maybe we should try to dress a little better out of respect … “business casual” as we call it at my office. We are in the presence of Our Lord, after all.

One word answer:

Clothes.
Kind of hard to tell by your answer if you are generalizing that it’s okay to wear what you’d normally wear to Mass or being out in public or if you are just posting an unhelpful, sarcastic reply. In all charity, I hope it is the former…

My hour is 11:00 to midnight. Ordinarily I’d be wearing pajamas if I were praying at home at that time of night but that just doesn’t seem reverent in the chapel. I wear something clean and comfortable, in the winter a loose sweatshirt (but not a ratty one) and jeans, in summer I’ll make it a decent shirt with pants. I want to be able to kneel, maybe prostrate myself on the floor, whatever seems right. When I’m there late at night I kind of feel like we’re hanging out at the kitchen table in the castle for some heart to heart talking, not upstairs in the throne room. Clothes don’t matter so much there.

Onmyknees, you are so lucky to live that close to the church. I have about a 40 minute drive but it is so worth it.

I would have to guess that it is a “come as you are” sort of thing…pretty much what everyone else is saying.

Well, I can be guilty of sarcasm quite often, but this time I felt the only answer was what I gave, and it’s from experience.

I’ve been a scheduled adorer for a few years now and the perpetual adoration chapel where I’m assigned is located next door to two schools which are also summertime daycare camps and swimming pool. It’s wonderful to see kids stop by the chapel even in bathingsuits (with coverups on, of course). Also, since the area is surrounded by lawns, I’ve seen folks who mow the lawns come in, also, in their less-than-clean workclothes. Teens also show up in their basketball uniforms.

If you really want to see the array of people in all varieties of dress (and sometimes un-dress), go to the adoration chapel in the basement of the Church of St. Francis of Assisi in New York City near Madison Square Garden on 31st Stree near 7th Avenue. Especially at lunch, you’ll see business suits, ladies’ suits, bus driver uniforms, police officer uniforms, fast-food worker uniforms, saris, shorts, jeans, and the only the clothes homeless folks have available to wear. They all are there to pray and it’s a beautiful thing to see. I was almost late to catch a flight out of LaGuardia one afternoon because I couldn’t tear myself away from Our Lord and His People at this chapel.

The God who sees us leave our mother’s womb is the same God who sees us kneel in his adoration chapels. Aside from the obvious fact that I would be really shocked if a naked person came into the chapel, I’ve seen it all and it’s all looked good to me. 👍

I now I can see from your reply, you were generalizing that as long as we’re clothed in something, it’s fine. Sounds good!👍

Our parish has Holy Hour every Wednesday morning. 2 or 3 times a year, we have 24 hour adoration. I go when I can, and have worn everything from shorts and a t-shirt (nothing disrespectful or crude on the t-shirt), to slacks and a polo ,to my surgical scrubs. As long as you’re not dressed scandelously, you should be fine (ie don’t wear a 2 piece bikini, especiallly if you’re an overweight male like me!!!:D).

You’ll find that people who go to adoration aren’t there to look at you. They’re there to look at Jesus.

Yes! That is a very close distance. Spend every moment you can with Him!

What should you wear?

Simple! **A heart that is open to God’s love.
**
Jesus sees all of you…your thoughts…your body…your memories…your desires…your sins…your repentances…your imperfections…your talents. Nothing that you ‘wear’ would matter to Jesus. It’s what’s in your heart that matters to Him.

However, for the sake of your fellow adorers, please keep your clothing modest. There is nothing that defeats the attention that Jesus should be receiving at Adoration – like someone wearing revealing or skin-tight clothing. They think that it makes them look attractive or sexy to others…but all it does is to help corrupt the attention and glory that Jesus should be receiving from them. It also shows a lack of respect to the holy presence of the Blessed Sacrament.😉
