Hi everyone,
I remember reading that at least 14 candles, which are each individually at least 51% beeswax, are to be burning on the altar whenever the Blessed Sacrament is exposed for adoration.

But, the local novus ordo parish here, uses those liquid fuel type candles which are see through and use no kind of wax at all. There are not even 7 “candles” total.

I know the requirement in the usus antiquior way is to have 14 candles, and a corporal laid out too.

Where can I find information about the present rubrics, I’m pretty sure its still 14 candles, but I would like to have the proof to present it to the priest and perhaps have this changed and done right. I looked in the GIRM and modern Roman Ritual, I didn’t see it in there. Can anyone give me a link or pdf to the liturgical book that specifies the requirements for novus ordo adoration?

Thanks and God bless,

P.S. for the Dominican fathers, brothers, sisters, nuns, people’s whose Patron saint is St. Dominic and all men named Dominic, Happy feast day (I’m writing this on Sunday, a day early, but by the time people will’ve read this it’ll be August 4th).

Currently the number of candles required for Exposition using a ciborium is 2, and for Exposition using a monstrance, it is 4-6. This is laid out in the Ritual: Holy Communion and the Worship of the Eucharist outside Mass, no 85

The requirement of beeswax may be relaxed but I am not sure whether the bishops of the United States have elected to do so.

P.S. Where did you buy a modern Roman ritual? I’ve been looking for one but only been able to obtain or borrow the books with the individual component parts.

I do not have a modern one, I just looked at the pdf on the Conference of Catholic Bishops’ website. Its too bad that they don’t publish beautiful missals, prayer-books and roman rituals using leather or gilded covers and stuff, instead of some of the tackier looking things and paperback covers.

I ahve found some nice Liturgy of the hours out there, but most missals are just regular red hardcover.

I am pretty sure the Roman Ritual is now split into severl parts and is not printed as a complete set, at least in the US. I have a Book of blessings, Rites Vol 1, Rites Vol 2. I think there is also the rite of exorcism and maybe the rites of ordination (they might be in the Rites Vol 1 or 2 acttually…) that arent in that set.
