To my understanding adultery is mortal sin. Is it? and Is it the same circumstance if you are not the married one engaging in adultery.

Adultery is always objectively mortal sin. It makes no difference at all if you are the married party or not. The innocent spouse is victimized by both involved in the act/affair, and both sin against the will of God.

If God is calling out to you through your conscience you are truly blessed! Do not squander this call in your life! Seek Him in prayer; talk to Him; ask Him to reveal himself. Most of all, be prepared to listen to Him when He speaks to your heart…

Dear Hodahaface- yeppers! You got that right! Adultery is a mortal sin and some do it just by looking at those around them. If you are the party being lusted for and fall for the married one, then your mortal sin is simple fornication. But don’t fret. God died for you. See Him in the Sacrament of Confession. Then His Precious Blood will wash your poor soul cleaner than the day you were born - that is He’ll restore your poor soul to its Baptismal grace and strengthen you with His Blood to go and fight the good fight! Imagine that! He will give you His peace with your poor soul.

Peace,

Gail

don’t understand the question, yes adultery is always a mortal sin. yes, fornication, sexual activity between unmarried persons, is always a sin.

Yes and Yes. Adultery is objectively serious matter.
Must not a particular adulterous action satisfy all the following requirements in order for it to be a mortal sin?
  • Grave matter (automatically satisfied for adultery)
  • Full knowledge
  • Complete consent of the will

Most people who commit adultery, know full well it’s wrong (because they usually hide it), and most are not forced into it.

By the way Adultery is a sexual relationship with a married person, to whom you are not married. It does not require two married people. Fornication is between two un-married people.

Unless between a married husband and wife any sexual activity could very well be a mortal sin. This includes masturbation, viewing lewd images, etc. You should not receive Holy Communion if you have any unconfessed mortal sins. If in doubt find a traditional, conservative priest for advice for the sake of your eternal soul.
I hope this helps. God bless.

OK, you’re getting beat over the head with this but I’m going to add to it anyay and break it down this way:

Adultery is:

Sex (or other impurity) between a a married man and single or married or vowed woman not his wife.

Sex between a married woman …et. al.

Intended sex between the above, including phone sex, fantasies expressed or unexpressed, but entertained in the mind (found in scripture in the words of Jesus Himself)

Pornography - for it objectifies the person it portrays, and diminishes the dignity of the one who gives him or her-self into fantasizing about the real people who have been airpbrushed into the pages or DVD’s.

Sexual fantasies about the other sex.

Impure thoughts (if entertained)

Following up on impure thoughts in either deed or word or phone calls (ie “bootie calls” or “phone sex” or “internet sex”)

Oh, and if you read Hosea…pretty much ANY sin you commit that pulls you out of the spousal image of the Church to Christ, well…that’s adultery. Thus, if you are into New Age and worshiping false idols…that’s adultery as well as breaking the 1st Commandment.

Does that help?

God is merciful…but God is Just. It is we who are not.

No that is idolatry, which Hosea likens to adultery to get his teaching across. Idolatry is not a double sin, one of adultery and one of idolatry. To claim that is to misinterpret Hosea.🙂 👍

In addition using pornography, while it falls under the commandment concerning adultery and/or coveting your neighbors wife would be misleading if confessed as adultery. In any case almost any of these are objectively mortally sinful.
