Must not a particular adulterous action satisfy all the following requirements in order for it to be a mortal sin?Yes and Yes. Adultery is objectively serious matter.
Most people who commit adultery, know full well it’s wrong (because they usually hide it), and most are not forced into it.Must not a particular adulterous action satisfy all the following requirements in order for it to be a mortal sin?
- Grave matter (automatically satisfied for adultery)
- Full knowledge
- Complete consent of the will
No that is idolatry, which Hosea likens to adultery to get his teaching across. Idolatry is not a double sin, one of adultery and one of idolatry. To claim that is to misinterpret Hosea.elf)
Oh, and if you read Hosea…pretty much ANY sin you commit that pulls you out of the spousal image of the Church to Christ, well…that’s adultery. Thus, if you are into New Age and worshiping false idols…that’s adultery as well as breaking the 1st Commandment.
