I wish we used it all four Sundays, but that’s not the case. We don’t get it at my parish until the Fourth Sunday of Advent this year. Anybody’s parish out there do it all four Sundays?

I play this hymn all four Sundays of advent for my church. 🙂

It’s our entrance hymn. First two verses, then the lighting of the Advent Candle, then the rest of the song.

We sing it each week, two verses a week. It is nice as unlike so many hymns, we actually get to sing all the verses. 👍

If I remember correctly :hmmm:, we sang it each Sunday of Advent last year.

We did sing it today, and I’ll try to check back to let you know as the season progresses this year.

We don’t get to sing it yet…I wish we did though. We didn’t sing hyms about advent today. O Come O Come Emmanuel would be wonderful though. I like the idea of it being sung during communion also. I would have chosen it for a gathering song myself.

Which one? Faith of Our Fathers? Hail, Holy Queen? Let All Mortal Flesh Keep Silence? Ubi Caritas? Holy God, We Praise Thy Name?
None of the above.
It was the communion hymn. (I really wish that they’d do away with communion hymns unless they are instrumentals or sung in Latin.)
All I remember is that it was #105 and that it made concentrating on the fact that I just consumed our Lord almost impossible.

We sing it as the entrance hymn on all four Sundays.

Careful though, we use the “Gather” hymnal, which mixes a few traditional hymns in with some really vapid ones >_<

We will be doing it all four Sundays at the church where I work. They used to do it all four Sundays at my parish, but there is a new director who is hit or miss with his music choices, so who knows what he’ll be doing for Advent this year.

Generally, during Advent, we use “O Come, O Come, Emmanuel” as the entrance hymn and “Proclaim the Joyful Message” as the recessional.

We also chant the Kyrie, the Verbum Dominie-Deo Gratias, the Preface Dialogue, Sanctus, Memorial Acclamation, and Agnus Dei in Latin during Advent.

We start signing it on the 4th Sunday, that near when the ‘O’ Antiphons begin. Those are what the hymn commerate.
