Hello! I am Isaac, and I am 14 years old, cradle catholic. I will be receiving the Sacrament of Confirmation in early 2015. I want to prepare for this event, because when I got first my First Communion I DID NOT CARE at all about my faith, and of course I had no idea what was happening when I was baptized as a baby. I regret not taking First Communion seriously. Now, I have a chance to confirm it all and seriously receive the gifts of the Holy Spirit. This is an event I want to remember forever. So what can I do to prepare it?
I googled this, and all I found was blog posts for catholic moms on how to get their teens to take their faith more seriously. Well, a) I am not a mom, b) I DO take my faith seriously, studying and praying a LOT, and c) I know, not fully understand, but I am aware of, the significance of this event. So those posts do not help. The other thing I found was the very technical instructions for religious ed people on how to do confirmation classes. Again, useless to me. I want to learn, not teach.
So, can you tell me, how should I prepare? It is a good six months away but I am SO excited for it! I already have a Confirmation name, MichealMary, a combo of Our Lady and Chief of the Lord’s Army. That may sound stereotypical, but I feel a STRONG friendship with these two, more than any other saints. How should I spiritually prepare to confirm my faith, and receive these great gifts of the Holy Spirit, which I long for? Any tips on studying deeply(not just classes, which are the BASICS, and NOT TO SOUND ARROGANT, I mainly know all of that stuff), praying in preparation, forming my spirituality, forming a relationship with my two saints and choosing/approaching a sponsor would be appreciated. Thank you so much!
Thanks!
PAX JMJ
Isaac
God Bless!

When you can get there, spend a little time in prayer before Christ in the Tabernacle. Before confession, for example. Or, while there, simply read the bible or any confirmation literature that your parish has given you. Confirmation is the laying on of hands, and in the Book of Acts (Chapters 8, 10 and 19), we see that amazing things happened when that was done. Since you care bout your faith now, I would advise you to be open to whatever gifts (charisms) the Holy Spirit desires for you. Something might happen right at the moment that hands are laid on you by the priest or bishop, or something might even happen later, but when it happens, you will be amazed.
