Tlaloc,The point above ( that you agree with) about the person asking themselves why they wear what they wear is getting to exactly what I’ve been talking about. Basing it on an internal process of dialogue rather than arbitrary external opinion. Perhaps I’ve stated it poorly. Anyway even if its not from me I’m glad you find value in that perspective.
What you are talking about is basically following conscience. As Catholics, we agree with you. However, your conscience needs to be properly formed. How can you have an internal dialogue regarding modesty if you don’t know what modesty is?
Your earlier point about burkhas is correct, if you’re a muslim! If you’re non-religious, anything goes doesn’t it? Modesty is what you decide? Catholic culture is not the same as society’s culture.
PLTeen,
IMHO (I’m no expert, just an easily tempted male), the no-no’s are:
bare midriff
cleavage
visible underwear (when bent over due to hip-hugger pants, bras - bra straps are tacky looking anyway - etc.)
excessive make-up (most make-up experts tone it down anyway…again, excessive make-up is tacky)
skirt length - hard to give guidance here (mini is a no-go, but there isn’t some magic measurement that I know of)
overly tight clothing (over-emphasizing the bust or rear)
stilletto heels (they’re uncomfortable anyway, aren’t they?)
I think jp2fan’s post was good advice. It’s not that girls should dress baggy. You can still look good, just try not to overtly tempt. Guys are still going to be attracted to girls, even without overt temptation.
