That will be one of the changes in the new English translation. Now would the proper Latin Translation of “Pro Multis” mean “For us or For many”?

You keep saying YOU are trying to do things. Things in a parish need to go through specific chanels and often happen slowly. There are many things in a parish that different people want to see happening. The pastor has to weigh these different things and see if any of them are for the betterment of ALL the people, not just one or a few. I work in a parish and we get suggestions, requests and demands all the time for different things to change. Some of them are brought to the Pastoral Council and are discussed. Other things are brought to the parishioners by way of survey or a town meeting. If there are enough people who agree to a certain change and if it is economically feasable or even logistically doable, then it might get done.Let me give you an example of why I am trying to do things.
Last week at the Palm Sunday Mass the sermon was skipped after the Gospel.
During Lent, Confessions are heard after Mass. Last week somone ask if Father was hearing Confessions because he wanted to go to Confession. I went and asked him. When I did he said that he was too busy because at the other Church there was a Baptism and to come on Saturday Morning. Now the Saturday morning was Holy Saturday and there are no Confessions heard from Holy Thursday through Holy Saturday.
I know scheduels are tight but is this how we treat a Sacrament?
During the year after Mass he will hear Confessions if you ask him. It is hard to go during the week to him cause of work. I usually go to a church nearby at work. I am thankful of that.
There is a time while I in Confession with him and a elderly lady just walked in in the middle of Confession and was asking Fr. to visit some one in a hospital. He said that he only visits peopel in a a “certian hospital”.
To Bless homes Bless chalk with a prayer card is avaliable to do 20+C+M+B+09 above your doorway yourself. I am thankful we know a Priest who will come and persaonaly bless our house, car and all our rooms himself.
Also there are times during holydays where there is no homily.
I am in no way trying to put down our Pastor. I do like him. He knows where I am coming from I have given him a Mass Abuses questions and answers in the past. This way back when I was starting to get into defending my Faith. I asked him if he read it and he said “It was intresting.” I have also asked to get a Novena to St. Anne started. He said that “we have enough going on.”
He knows where I am coming from. We do get into discussions about the Pope, Pro Life, politics, apologetics and the Tridentine Mass. I admit I did not talk to him about “Liturgical Abuses”.
I had talked about the Ruberics to our privous Sacristan. She said, We do not have to listen to Rome and We do not need Latin at the Mass." We aslo got into it about holding hands during the “Our Father” and the Caramastic movement.
During on of my conversations with my current Sacristan. I mention about the Sacralurum he mention that we do not have a key for it in years and there are some rules we do not have to follow.
Recently I have had the opertunity to start to build a bridge with our current Sacristan, by giving him some of my Leaflett, Tan, Roman Catholic Press and Ignatious press catalogs. Also by talking an explaining my views so he has a better understanding of where I am comming from. He also bring communion to my Mother. Instead of trying to start a debate with him. I would like to build something good to help start something good. Also, to show I can be of some help.
Also, I have talked to one our heads of our Parish council about The Tridentine Mass and he said that that is when the Priest “mumbles to the wall”? Yes. he did say that. Also I asked if we could put up the Communion rail. He said “Vatican III”. Whe I try to talk to him about issues he just ignors it and walks to somone else to talk.
Is this helping to see of some of the stuff that goes on. I am no way trying to put down my Parish or our Pastor and my fellow Parishners. I just want them to see what the Pope said recently about what was before VII is still sacred.
Maybe you’re excited about it, but how do these types of changes show stability or integrity within the Catholic Church? The liberals vs non-liberals battle continues and now it seems to be using the liturgy itself as hostage. Not good. That will be one of the changes in the new English translation.
Volunteer to be Sacristan, or be his understudy. It sounds like they need traditional-minded people in the “higher ups” in the parish.Let me give you an example of why I am trying to do things.

It is not a “change” so much as a correction of a hastily prepared and politically motivtated bad translation. Returning to authentic translation does demonstrate integrity. It also demonstrates stability insofar as the bad translation existing for only a few decades in the long history of the Church.how do these types of changes show stability or integrity within the Catholic Church?
The parts I do change are references that are incorrectly stated. An “Altar” instead of a table. An Altar has a relic in it. “The Holy Sacrafice of Mass” instead of a Communion gathering or Community meal" When we go to Mass the bread and wine ACTUALLY become the PHYSICAL BODY AND BLOOD OF OUR SAVIOR JESUS CHRIST! Alot of people tend to blur and have confusion and think a gathering or meal is the same as Mass.Does being free to depart from the text apply equally to all readers? In your view would it be OK for someone to change a petition to say “We pray that young people will be open to the priesthood and religious life [and that the Church stop being so sexist and start ordaining women]. For this we pray to the Lord.”
I’m quite certain that you didn’t really mean that readers should be able to ad lib the petitions.
I agree. We should go back to the Douay Rheims. It is not a “change” so much as a correction of a hastily prepared and politically motivtated bad translation. Returning to authentic translation does demonstrate integrity. It also demonstrates stability insofar as the bad translation existing for only a few decades in the long history of the Church.
Of course if we had more Latin as the Council called for, it would not be so easy to decieve the people with bad translations.
In my opinion I think at the heart of the problem is the USCCB. They should be disolved and the Bishops of each Diocese should report directly to the Pope. But, that is another topic thread. There are a lot of people who think The Bishop is the final authority of all. Nothing higher not even the Holy See nor the Holy Father.Probably unlikely since the USCCB holds the copyright – and gets the royalties – for the NAB translation.
As an aside, a friend of mine wrote a book the cited scripture passages. In his manuscript he used the NAB since he figured he was writing for an American audience. His publisher changed it to the NRSV because of the difference in royalties paid to the copyright holders to use their material.
We had a very short one. The Deacon explained that there was not much to say, since the Gospel reading was self-explanatory. He told a story about a sick child who offered her suffering up to Jesus on the Cross. It was a very moving story, but quite honestly, I could have understood if he had offered to give us a period of silent contemplation in lieu of the homily.Let me give you an example of why I am trying to do things.

He may have been hearing Confessions of RCIA Candidates at that time, which is a permitted exception. Their sponsors and friends are also permitted to go to Confession, and your friend could have joined with them.During Lent, Confessions are heard after Mass. Baptism is actually a more important Sacrament than Confession. You said he was not hearing Confessions because he was presiding at a Baptism. (Which would have either been an emergency baptism because of a terminal illness, or a conditional baptism for an RCIA member whose status was in doubt, since regular baptisms are not permitted during Lent.)I know scheduels are tight but is this how we treat a Sacrament?
There’s nothing wrong with that.During the year after Mass he will hear Confessions if you ask him. It is hard to go during the week to him cause of work. I usually go to a church nearby at work. I am thankful of that.

Yep - different priests are assigned to different hospitals. It has to do with how close the parish is, to the hospital. They are not supposed to be driving all the way across town to do hospital visits. The priest assigned to that hospital will give the Sacraments to any Catholic who has been admitted to that hospital.and was asking Fr. to visit some one in a hospital. He said that he only visits peopel in a a “certian hospital”.
That’s really nice!To Bless homes Bless chalk with a prayer card is avaliable to do 20+C+M+B+09 above your doorway yourself. I am thankful we know a Priest who will come and persaonaly bless our house, car and all our rooms himself.
If it’s not a Sunday or a Holy Day of Obligation, it’s not required to have a homily. Also there are times during holydays where there is no homily.
Did you have a congregation put together, ready to do the Novena, or were you expecting him to provide you with a congregation? If you had a congregation ready to go, he would have had no reason to say “no” but if he is being asked to pile one more thing on top of his regular people who are always the ones who do everything, then he would probably say “no” for their sake, to keep them from being overburdened.I am in no way trying to put down our Pastor. I do like him. He knows where I am coming from I have given him a Mass Abuses questions and answers in the past. This way back when I was starting to get into defending my Faith. These are pretty small hills to die on. The Charismatic Movement is approved by Rome, and there is nothing in the GIRM one way or the other about holding hands during the Our Father. Your Sacristan has no say what language the Mass is said in - that’s up to your priest. The Sacristan’s job is to prepare the Altar before Mass according to whatever instructions the priest gives him for that day; nothing else.I had talked about the Ruberics to our privous Sacristan. She said, We do not have to listen to Rome and We do not need Latin at the Mass." We aslo got into it about holding hands during the “Our Father” and the Caramastic movement.
If there is no key, it’s not like the Sacristan can just conjure one out of thin air. If it was lost, then it is gone forever. Rules have nothing to do with it - if the priest has chosen not to change the lock, there’s not much the Sacristan can do about it.During on of my conversations with my current Sacristan. I mention about the Sacralurum he mention that we do not have a key for it in years and there are some rules we do not have to follow.
That’s good. You would not want for him to think that you are just an armchair critic.Recently I have had the opertunity to start to build a bridge with our current Sacristan, by giving him some of my Leaflett, Tan, Roman Catholic Press and Ignatious press catalogs. Also by talking an explaining my views so he has a better understanding of where I am comming from. He also bring communion to my Mother. Instead of trying to start a debate with him. Yeah, I don’t blame him. What, exactly, are you expecting him to do for you? If your parish has not been designated by your Bishop as an EF parish, the Parish Council can’t actually change the Bishop’s ruling. And if you are the only person in the whole parish who wants the EF, the Bishop is not going to consider giving it to you. You can attend the designated EF parish, if you want to.Also, I have talked to one our heads of our Parish council about The Tridentine Mass and he said that that is when the Priest “mumbles to the wall”? Yes. he did say that. Also I asked if we could put up the Communion rail. He said “Vatican III”. Whe I try to talk to him about issues he just ignors it and walks to somone else to talk.
You are going to have to make a decision about what hill you want to die on. That’s a lot of issues to have going on, all at once. It would be easy for someone to think that you just spend your time looking for things to complain about. Is this helping to see of some of the stuff that goes on. I am no way trying to put down my Parish or our Pastor and my fellow Parishners. I just want them to see what the Pope said recently about what was before VII is still sacred.
Approval from the bishop is NO LONGER THE RULE regarding the Extraordinary Form. ANY priest has the RIGHT to say the EF. Summorum Pontificum is in effect. Ecclesia Dei IS NOT, which is what many bishops seem to think.Yeah, I don’t blame him. You can attend the designated EF parish, if you want to.
What? There is no problem hearing confessions during the Triduum.Let me give you an example of why I am trying to do things.

Confession is a VERY IMPORTANT SACRAMENT! You CAN NOT receive HOLY COMMUNION in a STATE of Mortal Sin. Confession is a Sacrament the is administered more than once. Baptism is only once. Confession refreshes the soul.I am not complaining about it. I am sick of the innovative, experiments that have become the norm.
The Catholicism of the OP isn’t.Show them that Catholicism is big enough for a good Catholic to believe it all!![]()
OH, I see. I thought it was opened but could not be locked. Then what use does it serve then If it can not be opened? You can’t not pour precious blood down the drain?
I do attend. I should attend more often. The Parish I belong to is the building that my Grandparents, Mother and I were raised in and I am trying to dig my heals in and correct the nonsense. If it goes far enough to accept the nonsense I will go to the E.F. every week. The commute will be worth it. I am at peace there. Like the saying “The Most Beautiful Thing This Side of Heaven”.Just escape. Go to the Traditional Latin Mass. I used to bother myself with all the nonsense that goes on in places like that, but it’s not worth it.
Just get out.
Baptisms are permitted during Lent. Can you produce documentation to prove otherwise? Every parish I have ever belonged to has done baptisms during Lent.Baptism is actually a more important Sacrament than Confession. You said he was not hearing Confessions because he was presiding at a Baptism. (Which would have either been an emergency baptism because of a terminal illness, or a conditional baptism for an RCIA member whose status was in doubt, since regular baptisms are not permitted during Lent.)
.
Maybe it’s just in our Diocese, but in this Diocese, there are no baptisms or weddings during Lent, due to the penitential character of the season (no parties or flowers allowed).Baptisms are permitted during Lent. Can you produce documentation to prove otherwise? Every parish I have ever belonged to has done baptisms during Lent.
I think your diocese should be challenged on this. Absolutely nothing in Church law prohibits baptisms from being celebrated during Lent. In fact, if a diocese does not have infant baptisms during Lent, it may be obstructing parents from fulfilling their canonical obligations of making sure that their children are baptized within the first weeks after birth. That would be a violation of the rights of the parents and their children.Maybe it’s just in our Diocese, but in this Diocese, there are no baptisms or weddings during Lent, due to the penitential character of the season (no parties or flowers allowed).
Just because they are written down in some book they purchased does not mean they are correct. He’s right…an altar is not a table, and it is the Sacrifice of the Mass, not a meal. Sounds like they got hold of a “liberal” book. Were you supposed to say it? That is, was the word “sisters” included in the text in front of you?
If it was included in the written text, then your job was to read it. Neither you nor I have the authority to change what we are given to read. If it was not in the written text and you chose not to add it, then you did the right thing. Just as you are not authorized to add to the next, you are not authorized to delete from the text.
If a publisher publishes them I think we can assume they are written down. And since your pastor has selected the material from that particular publisher that is what you are authorized to read.
Changing the words you have been given to read strikes me as a huge abuse. It is quite simply not your job to make those decisions. As I said earlier, if you did that in my parish you would be corrected and it would be made clear that you are not to do it again. If you did it again you would no longer be put on the schedule.
No, no…don’t just leave. Stay and help fix what needs fixin’!I do attend. I should attend more often.
