Just wanted to thank you all for the explanations on recieving communion in the hand. Now that I have some info, I think I’d like to follow tradition and recieve on the tongue from now on…Again, thanks to all who provided information.
This made me week.

You can protest to the pastor, the bishop and ultimately to Rome, but you cannot change things that are written in the Lectionary. You don’t have that authority.Yes, and perhaps part of that smoke is the refusal to submit to the authority of the Church. Sometimes I don’t think we ever see the plank in our own eye.

Peace

Tim
Would you trust and submit Authority to Fr. Pledger and Cardnial Mahoney?

St. Piux X warned the Church about the evils of Modernism.

Do your reject their authority? If so, by what authority do you do so? Do you get to pick and choose who you will submit to? If so, I would really appreciate a reference to Canon law that states that.

Peace

Tim

But surely you have a thought? Does a priest have the authority to alter the set text of the Mass?

How come The E.F. has the correct translation and the O.F. does not? People complained and the voice was heard. How many times in the last 10 years I have seen the words in scripture changed in the Missals. I discuss this with fellow Catholics and they too see it. Why are they being changed. Could it perhaps we are being spoon fed by those who have a agenda?

My Priest told me that the Dioceses is Autonomous! Also the USCCB could never be dissolved by Rome.

Because the EF wasn’t written by a bunch of liberal-minded people in the 1960s.

They are being changed by people with an agenda, yes.

Also, dioceses are autonomous, to a degree. A bishop is king of his diocese. The only person above him is the Pope.

And, the USCCB could be dissolved by Rome. It’s just highly unlikely because the liberals would revolt and split from the Church (officially, that is).

When I also mentioned to him about Arch Bishop Burke being appointed to the Holy See Supreme Court. He said that he is out of here and the Court does not have power over us? I looked shocked when he said that.

I had no idea that the Gregorian Rite was celebrated in any language other than Latin?

I could not say. How many times?

Regarding the former, he is correct, to an extent. Regarding the latter, perhaps you could ask his opinion of Canon 449? (Not that I am of the opinion that to do so would be the course of wisdom, but there it is)

Being yet unanswered, it seems my question to you still stands: Does a priest have the authority to alter the set text of the Mass?

The Court might not have any power over the laity, I just don’t know how the Apostolic Signatura works.

It IS the highest ecclesiastical court in the Church, though. So it’s not a miniscule position.

Better yet here is Cardinal Mahoney at Mass. Tell me what do you see wrong? Would you Question him? Click on the link. Now do you see why if the Priest’s, Bishop’s and Cardinal’s can not maintain and uphold Tradition why we must! World you want this to be the norm infecting all the Parishes?

I don’t think someone else’s disobedience should justify yours. I agree with you that it is a terrible thing what he is doing. I find it reprehensible that this is allowed to continue. But I still don’t see how you wish to change that without the authority of the Pope?

Bah 😛 “I’ll show you mine if you show me yours”

Third time:
Does a priest have the authority to alter the set text of the Mass?

Something happened to me after Mass this morning. I am a Lector at my Parish. I was confronted by two of our choir members about the way I lector. Let me tell you about myself. The reason why I became a lector was I was tired of seing lectors dress and perform sloppy. Some lectors you can not even hear them at all. Some do not dress properly. Being trained as an Altar boy I thought I could do a good job and bring respect back.

When I am lectoring ,I try to speak loud and clear so the the people in the last row can hear. I do get comments from people that I am the only one that they can hear in the last row. I always wear a suit and tie. If we would have Surplus and Casocks I would wear them. I make a point to strike my chest during the Confetitor and bow during the words of “By the power of the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary…” I genuflect when Approaching the Altar towards the Tabernacle. Now during the petitions I make changes when they refer to the Altar as a “Table”, and when they say a “Comunion Meal, or Communial Gathering” I change it to the Holy Sacrafice of Mass. I DO NOT CHANGE ANY of the WORDS of SCRIPTURE! I read it VERBATIUM. I do say This is the Word of the Word and forget to say Sisters before the second reading. This is what some liberals have a problem with me.

Two members of the choir apprached me and questioned me about it. One of them always walks up to the Altar opens the Tabernacle and stands by the Priest during the 'Lamb of God" while everyone else is kneeling.

I explained to them I am a Conservative Traditionailst who does not like the Liberal influences of Feminisim and Modernism. They said the Blessed Mother said it was ok and that I should talk to people who are more Different minded and I would see. I also mentioned that they should not change the words of the Agnus Dei and add words to it. I know this got under their skin.

I mentioned last week Our Priest skipped the Homily on Palm Sunday. They just ignored it. All I am trying to do is have a proper O.F. and stop all the nonsense that goes on. Not to brag, I like to mention I am always saying a couple of Rosary’s at the Fatima grotto in front of our Church and before Mass. I am also a member of the Pittsburgh Latin Mass Community. When I do go there I am at peace and feel at home.

Who is wrong? Am I doing something wrong? I do get compliments too.
I’ve been told by priests that the petitionary prayers are handed down from the diocesean seat. I’d be interested to know if that’s always the case.

I confess I didn’t have the energy to read the 200 previous posts…but without wanting to demean all your efforts, you sound quite arrogant, condescending and judgemental.
You seem to have no problem slapping labels on others like “liberal” or “modernist” or “feminist” and then dismissing them out of hand instead of treating them respectfully as brothers or sisters in faith. You think nothing of modifying others’ prayer requests to suit YOUR sense of propriety or finding fault with others perceived lack of piety. Even your stated motivation for becoming a lector in the first place was because others were doing a “sloppy” job according to…you. Hardly the level of charity one would expect of one so observant and prayerful. Perhaps you could devote some of that rosary time you are so proud of to finding less fault and cultivating your own humility and sincere sense of service.
 👍 :clapping: :bowdown2: :blessyou:

I have read on other threads here that the priest does have the authority to alter the text of some parts of the Mass, and that other parts are fixed and cannot be altered. I don’t know which parts are which, but I assume you could find out by looking in the GIRM.

Our obedience and loyalty is to Jesus Christ and His Church. We’ve had anti-popes in the past who required councils to be called to correct their heresies. Were those who spoke against them disobedient? Our duty as Catholics is to defend the faith and that includes speaking against liturgical abuses. If any member of the clergy is acting against the teachings of the Church then we have an obligation to act.

Valid one day.
Invalid the next.

Maybe we could try the odd-even days next? 🙂
What the Pope binds on earth is bound in Heaven. What he looses on earth is loosed in Heaven. (Matthew 16:19)

The rest of us are called to be patient. 🙂

Do you have reason to believe any obedience is owed to an antipope?

Put yourself in the shoes of the faithful during the anti-pope reign. How did they know an anti-pope sat in the chair of Peter? What conclusions were made that he was an anti-pope?

*What?? *

No, no, no - an anti-Pope is not someone who is sitting in the Chair of Peter. An anti-Pope is a guy who is not sitting in the Chair of Peter, who is going around telling people that he should be the Pope instead of the one who is actually there.

Everybody always knows who is the Pope and who is the anti-Pope - it is always very clear, who is who.

For example, right now there is a guy going around calling himself the Pope, whose name is Michael. But no Catholic is confused about who is the Pope - we all know that it is not “Pope Michael” - it is Pope Benedict.

I hope this clarifies it for you.
