John Wesely believed in a second blessing which rendered a person sinless. Do you beieve that.

BTW the greek word rendered perfect means mature. We are called to spiritual maturity.

Nothing unclean but all that is covered by the blood is clean. See Passover where the blood provided covering. True believers are covered by the blood of Jesus and are not unclean.

But this is not what Martin was saying - go read Post 238. He believes our sanctification is completed after death.

Don’t you? If not, on what do you base your belief?

As for me, I don’t buy into this “manure covered in snow” theory - deep down we remain unclean but are merely “covered by the blood of Jesus”? Sounds messy.

When God says we will be “made perfect”, we think He means it.

Well perhaps when Martin gets back he can answer my question. He stated (paraphrased) in Post 238 that a Christian’s sanctification is completed after death. Now I’ve asked once whether he has a name for that process (Post 240, no response), and twice for confirmation he believes in the process, or not (Post 267 and Post 282, sortof).

Personally, I think he believes in a final purification, since he agrees nothing “unclean” can enter heaven and none of us (pardon if any exceptions are reading) are “unclean” at death. So though he believes in the process Catholics call “purgatory”, he refuses to give his belief form by naming the process. Yet, if I read him right, he wants to condemn (maybe too harsh a word) Catholics for believing something that’s “not in Scripture”.

So, Martin, where do YOU get IN SCRIPTURE your belief in this “sanctification being completed after death” process?

Yup, that’s EXACTLY where we get our belief in purgatory.

Now, I gotto go watch my daughter whip Martin’s son in wrestling… (kidding, of course)

I was reading in bed this morning (courtesy of my sprained foot) and it seems that protestants believe that purification happens in that zap of a minute after death.

The early Church believed in purgatory till the “reformers” came. I suppose they think they have the inside knowledge on this 1500 years later better than the early Christians did. After all, what did the early Christians, martyrs and saints know about scripture. That they hobnobbed with the apostles apparently meant zilch.

Someone mentioned something like this to me the other day, along this line. When Mary was still in her mother’s womb one of her ovaries contained the ovum that would someday become the baby Jesus. Even back then, as close to her (immaculate) conception as I need to go, Jesus was in her.

Here is just a little thought. By virtue of our being born of the flesh,you know being human, we inherit original sin from our two disobedient parents.

Now, if Mary was not Immaculately conceived, ergo, she would be with original sin, when she concieves Christ, since all his human DNA came from Mary, doesn’t that mean that in His Humanity he would also inherit original sin?

And yes ponder that for a while. All of His human DNA came from Mary.

Hey, don’t denigrate that “manure covered in snow”. If you leave it untouched, in a few thousand years, that will turn into petrol.

When I read here the writings of many non-Catholics trying to correct the one, holy, Catholic and apostolic Church, I often get the image of a man on a hill pointing his flashlight at the sun.
