God is God He does what He wants.
We have been given His word so that we may learn more about Him. One who never heard of Marys perpetual virginity would never arrive at that conclsion by reading the bible so it is you who have brougt your prejudices to the table.
then why do you ignore 1/3 of His word…

Hey Rob, speaking of having to duck, did you all see the President having to duck, not once but twice. People are sick. I for one admire President Bush for his faith in God and his service to this country. It’s a tough job, but somebody has to do it.

Substantiate please… Catholics demand evidence for statements, and so far, as long as this thread has been, there hasn’t been any proof.
I must keep a count of the number of times we’ve had to use the word prove, proof, substantiate, support.

If this was a court of law, the whole case would be thrown out for lack of evidenciary support and Ag_not baptised before even completing RCIA:D

I know what I am talking about
 I am always busy studying and learning and praying for understanding… And even though I always feel like God is teaching me something new, I don’t think I’d ever be bold enough to make the claim that “I know what I am talking about”

A little humility goes a long way 😊

no Martin we hope you will come to the light remember Jesus said when the blind lead the blind they both end up in the ditch…yes i do believe in assurance however i must do as Jesus comanded to do…
i have been in the nondenom church i felt so far from God there, only when i came back to His church did i know He was there…the truth is not out there it is already here in His Church, not something some man started a few yrs ago…if Martin Luther was so right why isn’t every one outside the RC Lutherans?the Holy Spirit lead him out then forgot to tell him the rest?
Martin 777 you use some very belittling remarks in your last posts…do you honestly think that will help any one?
as for Jesus coming and telling every one to leave His church;that one is way to funny:p
some day you will know and it will be with great sadness that you will understand the error you promote.
in a way i almost envy those outside of the Church,to me it seems they would need a even greater faith to beleive some of the things they beleive, than a catholic.
may God bless you Martin 777
Unfortunately you have no assurance. You have no certainty, I mean REAL certainty, that when you die some day, you will go to be with Jesus. That is a very sad situation, and one God does not want you to stay in. I have had the privilege of leading many people to that place of assurance, where they can say with Paul, “I know whom I have believed and am persuaded that He is able to keep that which I have committed to Him against that day!” And of course he said “For I am confident of this very thing-that He who began a good work in you will complete it until the day of Christ Jesus.” Billy Graham was used by God to start that in my life many years ago, and I thank God for that ‘blessed assurance’. I am sorry I spoke in a belittling way. Please forgive me. False doctrine tends to infuriate me and sometimes in those situations I fail to ask the Holy Spirit to control my words!

Is it a false assurance?

Paul also said
So then, my beloved, obedient as you have always been, not only when I am present but all the more now when I am absent, work out your salvation with fear and trembling.
Jesus also said that
"Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven,
Doesn’t sound like assurance.

there may be millions the world over who believe as you do, but there are over a billion who still follow the original Church founded by Jesus. I was born again but I don’t take for granted the blood of my savior. I’d rather consider myself the tax collector humbled before God and performing good works for the love of others in the Love I have for Him than claim rightiousness regardless of what sins I may fall to in my life.

Jesus addressed this parable to those who were convinced of their own righteousness and despised everyone else.

“Two people went up to the temple area to pray; one was a Pharisee and the other was a tax collector.
The Pharisee took up his position and spoke this prayer to himself, ‘O God, I thank you that I am not like the rest of humanity greedy, dishonest, adulterous or even like this tax collector. I fast twice a week, and I pay tithes on my whole income.’ But the tax collector stood off at a distance and would not even raise his eyes to heaven but beat his breast and prayed, ‘O God, be merciful to me a sinner.’ I tell you, the latter went home justified, not the former; for everyone who exalts himself will be humbled, and the one who humbles himself will be exalted.” Who would you rather be in this parable? Gospel (Lk 18:9-14)
Yes, and God wants us to be humble. But He also wants those who have been saved to be confident and to know for sure they have a Father who will NEVER forsake them. That’s grace. If you are a parent, let me ask you…is there anything your child could do to get you to disown him or her? I never would, and I’m not nearly as patient and merciful as God. He emptied his wrath for ALL my sins on the cross of Christ. Someday maybe you will enjoy all that it means. I want that for you and everyone.

I responded to your comments on purgatory, I hope that you can find the post.

When you say that to fbl9, you are basically saying, “you are not saved, which is my interpretation of being in communion with God and reconciled to God.”

You have no right to say that. If fbl9 is in a state of grace, then he has confessed his sins and is cooperating with God’s grace and has as much assurance as anyone on earth that he will escape hell.

The irony here is that you, as a Protestant,(by suggesting that fbl9 is in a sad and sorry state because he feels he must go to confession on a regular basis and keep on cooperating with God’s grace to enter heaven) are promoting a non-Scriptural man made doctrine.

Why do you keep insisting that people here do not know grace?

You are confusing “works” with “cooperation”.

I am headed off to bed and do not have my Bible in front of me right now… But in addition to Paul saying he was “working out” his “salvation with fear and trembling…”

Did he not also say that “I do not even judge myself” ?

“Total assurance” is alright, if you mean that you can be assured we have the hope of heaven because Christ died for our sins.

But none of us can judge, even of ourselves, that we are guranteed heaven, unless we presume to know the heart of God.

Total assurance? I have assurance that God is faithful to His promises…and He paid the price so that I could be with Him in eternal glory.

All I need to do is trust, and OBEY!

For there’s no other way…

To be happy with Jesus,

But to trust, and OBEY! 🙂

(sound familiar 😉 )
