it does NOT disprove Purgatory. You need to ask yourself what “today” meant.
  • “Today” the thief while on his own cross suffering terribly defended Jesus from attack and ridicule before men. He believed in Jesus as God. He acknowledged his own sin and fault and punishment deserving of the crime. He recognized Jesus as innocent of all that was against him. And then he asked Jesus for mercy. That’s a whole lot of theology packed into a few sentences of dialogue by the thief. Then we don’t know how much longer after this exchange, that his legs were broken, so that he would finally suffocate and die (like he didn’t suffer enough already). Do you know how hard you have to hit someone in the leg to break the leg? Keep in mind he is also crucified. His feet are nailed to a cross just like Jesus was… “Today” could have been his purgatory here. Not everybody has that unique torturous opportunity. But “today” doesn’t end there. It continues.
  • “Today” Where did Jesus go immediately after death? Heaven? No. Where did He go?
  • When did Jesus return to heaven?
  • Now ask yourself what “today” means in the context of what happened
Nope!!! try again.
Aahh! for sound logical thinking. And a wish that others may be so endowed so that we can stop this ridiculous to and fro that is so unecessary had some put their thinking caps on.

Ahh. so you see God granting special grace to certain people. Can we call those who receive special grace as God’s elect or chosen ones?
A resounding Yes! to that.

I know where you are going with this line of thinking.😃

ok, here’s one … I say good deeds are without doubt necessary for salvation… Faith alone doesn’t cut it.

Anyone refute this?

It was a special grace, because it was a baptism of desire (or baptism of blood possibly…) We have no room for sin at the moment of our baptism…we are filled completely with God’s grace.

Goodness.it was Jesus THERE, present, bleeding and broken beside the good thief! Surely, that is reason enough to believe the grace He recieved was “special.”

But also keep in mind… That we all recieve this grace at our baptism:)
Good one AshleyBelle. Now, whether Hisalone will see the brilliance of that rebuttal is another thing. It all hinges on whether he believes in baptism and all it effects on your soul.

Still trying to win one?
No she didn’t… did you ever answer my posts from yesterday… I don’t think so…
On what thread you didnt post on this one yesterday?

All have sinned. Is Mary part of all?

Today means today. Im funny like that;)
When you recite your creed you say he went to hell.
Others say he went to the holding tank with all the OT saints to release them.
Jesus said He would be in paradise.

Jesus said Paradise. Why would He lie?
Is paradise purgatory? No one has said it was.
Well okay, I’ll ride with your thnking. Just a tiny question: Where did Christ go after His death and before His resurrection.

"You, therefore, must be perfect, as your Heavenly Father is perfect."Matthew 5:48

=onenow1, Looking forwrd to that third place,in light of the above .

John 11
42 I knew that thou hearest me always, but I have said this on account of the people standing by, that they may believe that thou didst send me."

43 When he had said this, he cried with a loud voice, “Laz’arus, come out.”
44 The dead man came out, his hands and feet bound with bandages, and his face wrapped with a cloth. Jesus said to them, “Unbind him, and let him go.”

Peace, oneno1:hmmm:

you guys are way too good and way too fast. I read a post, think about it, think of and look up resources for rebutal as necessary, and dang, about 6 people have posted similar rebutals off the top of their heads 😃

This is great 👍

To refocus: can I ask that if you make a claim that say, the Assumption contradicts the bible, then you provide references to what leads you to that conclusion, reading the scriptures under the guidance of the Holy Spirit.

Remember, saying something is not in the Bible explicitly is NOT providing evidence that the Catholic Churches teachings on the matter are contra scripture.

Ive been challenged by a few verses here I have to admit, but I still havent been presented with anything that would make me ring Father and tell him I wont be there Monday night 😃

Hey Agnots, I have a feeling you already know that you have won this battle, there is no arguing with the TRUTH. Plus there is no way to prove the correct way to interpret a Bible verse, this comes by faith and the Holy Spirit. The truth is the Catholic Church is not just a human institution. And Jesus was not just a man. So when you go to church you are not just going into a house, workplace, hospital, school etc… You are going to where Jesus is. Yes, humans can still defile it in their actions and words, but Jesus will still remain there in the eucherist and also in the people. 👍
(off topic) Well okay, Ag_not has won the battle. But does that mean those who agree with her can share in the cookies too?:coffeeread: Would go well with my coffee. (on topic)

Sorry, nothing on topic:confused:

Here is just a little thought. By virtue of our being born of the flesh, you know being human, we inherit original sin from our two disobedient parents.

Now, if Mary was not Immaculately conceived, ergo, she would be with original sin, when she concieves Christ, since all his human DNA came from Mary, doesn’t that mean that in His Humanity he would also inherit original sin?

And yes ponder that for a while. All of His human DNA came from Mary.
