Most people are damaged goods in some way or other, emotionally.

Nah. If you say, “most people have suboptimal emotional responses under some specific circumstances,” I’d get on board.

Since when is marriage about one’s heart? 😃

It is unavoidably involved, unless one is a sociopath, just as it is involved in any functioning personal relationship.

I’d say that most people who aren’t damaged goods have suboptimal emotional responses under some specific circumstances. 😉 But I think it’d be hard to find a person without maybe 2 or 3 mild disorders, maybe one on the lower end of intermediate, as a result of being wounded at some point or something to do with neglect or loss. Very many people have had difficult or messy childhoods, which is bound to cause problems later, as well as often some additional trouble when leaving adolescence.

I think you’re underestimating the importance of congenital psychological issues. A lot of psychological stuff has a clear genetic component. And yes, those are very prevalent.

The Fall proved in a lab? 😉
