What age should the age of consent be? Is 12 an appropriate age to set the age of consent? Is a country (or state) that sets the age of consent at 12 being moral?
Is there a place in the world where the age of consent is 12? That seems a wee bit young. I am assuming that you mean that a 12 year old could get married without parental permission? What age should the age of consent be? Is 12 an appropriate age to set the age of consent? Yes.Is there a place in the world where the age of consent is 12?
Do think a country that does this is immoral? That seems a wee bit young.
Nope.I am assuming that you mean that a 12 year old could get married without parental permission?
What is your view of the moral state of a state that establishes 12 as the age of consent?Frankly, the age of 12 is only representative of a prepubescent child who is essentially “clueless”. While someone of that age may be past the age of being able to discern right from wrong, that does not mean that a 12 year old is capable of making decisions that will be life changing.
Children of that age are simply “vulnerable”, not to mention not only physically undeveloped, but mentally undeveloped as well.
I agree completely.the only adults who thinks 12 year olds should be able to have consensual sex are those adults who want to have sex with 12 year olds. blunt but IMO true. people with that warped thinking have no business setting law to govern the land.
countries are not immoral, people are immoral.
Yes, I agree as well. I teach Junior High and when I see the 12 year old children in my class they are still babies as far as I am concerned. Anyone who thinks that this age is capable of consenting for sexual acts with adults is disordered and really needs counseling. In my opinion, yes that would be very immoral.the only adults who thinks 12 year olds should be able to have consensual sex are those adults who want to have sex with 12 year olds. blunt but IMO true. people with that warped thinking have no business setting law to govern the land.

You cannot base today’s society on the norms of 2000 years ago. Back then families were started earlier because of various reasons. The average lifespan was much less due to illness and so the norm would be to raise a family much earlier. Today, with a more educated society and advanced medical technologies there is no need for a 12 year old to marry. We don’t stone people caught in adultery in this country as they did back then either…teachccdWasn’t the Virgin Mary supposed to be 12 or 13? After that movie the Nativity Story came out I wondered if Catholics agreed with this, and how they felt about such things in present day society. It seems like it would be a huge moral conflict in today’s society…I can’t imagine anyone wanting their 12 year old to be married or a mother.
Then what is this thread about?I am assuming that you mean that a 12 year old could get married without parental permission?![]()
Depends on what a twelve-year-old’s cultural responsibilities are. If they’re given adult responsibilities, I see no harm in it. Twelve-year-olds in the western world are nowhere near able to consent (though I tend to think that most eighteen-year-olds aren’t either), though, because they’re socialized as children. What age should the age of consent be? I assume that the OP was referring to the age at which one can legally consent to having sex (recently raised from 14 to 16 in Canada). Then what is this thread about?![]()
Why so paranoid? Just because someone asked a question doesn’t mean they are out to attack the Faith. My guess is that the OP is talking about the Vatican or some Catholic country that has the Age of Consent at 12 years old and hopes to get enough Catholics on the forum to say that it is definitely immoral, so he can inform us that our religion is immoral.
