AIDS Is a Kind of 'Justice' for Promiscuous Sex, Belgian Catholic Leader Claims

So you think that trying to “convert” homosexuals to a hetrosexual/celibate lifestyle is going to genuinely work better in the government’s mind compared to making contraception available?

It’s like seeing someone who is bleeding. You will immediately offer them a bandage and first aid, and THEN “convert” them into thinking that suicide was a bad idea. You won’t stand there telling them they shouldn’t committ suicide while they’re bleeding. Same with the homosexual lifestyle. If they’re having sex and you cannot stop them, they should be made aware of protection to ensure there is no lasting damage until they can be convinced of a celibate lifestyle if they wish to be Catholic. That will always be a governmental viewpoint. Limit the damage while it has happening before you get to the cause.
But has the damage been limited? Often, those intent on sexual promiscuity disparage even safety measures. There is a case in Kansas wherein a military person may be subject to court martial because he attended swinger parties, assuring all his partners that he was safe, while not using condoms, and in fact was HIV positive.

And the mere fact of providing what is deemed to confer safety but doesn’t, may have the effect of actually increasing the behavior one is trying to prevent, and thereby widening the harm.

Of course, outbreaks of sexually transmitted diseases are made worse by the practice of sexual promiscuity. But it seems that prevention has never been primarily directed at curbing the behavior which is at the root of the problem, but rather at making the causal behavior more “safe” by providing condoms–which even when used perfectly, have about a 2% failure rate, and a much higher rate as actually used. “Safe” sex, indeed.
Amen-- and I continue to weary of sinful behavior being psychobabbled as ‘bad choices.’

Now if we treated sexual promiscuity the same way we have treated smoking, every condom package would have a surgeon generals warning: Warning–sexual activity may be hazardous to your health. It should enumerate a list of applicable STD’s and their ill effects.

I don’t understand the relevance of that story in the first paragraph. The person you mention did not use contraception. So how is your argument to do with contraception not working? Surely your argument is one for more education on prevention of STDs rather than stopping sex?

And it does confer safety, and does do it. Using condoms properly is 97.5% effective. Therefore your point of saying that contraception does not work is innaccurate. Sexual education does not work in that case, not the contraception.

It’s like blaming the police for not stopping domestic violence when no one ever reported anything to them. Doesn’t mean the police are defective.

No. Dangerous sexual activity which does not use contraception may be hazardous to your health. Whether you are married or not.

Good for the Archbishop. it is about the CC start to speak up and call a sin, a sin again. watch out Archbishop, you will hear many Catholics nicie coming against you. but dont worry you also will have many faifhfull Catholics on your side. have courage and dont be afraid of the political correctors out there. Some people get AIDS because of blood transfusions. Is that justice?

Not justice, just an unfortunate result. Those infected with HIV or AIDS should not be blood donors in any case.

My only point is that when a specific behavior is known to spread particular diseases, that behavior should be discouraged, not encouraged.

In the days before infectious diseases were manageable with antibiotics, it was customary to post “Quarantine” signs at the doors of the homes of those infected, until they were fully recovered, so as not to spread the disease. It was a public health measure.

Great amounts of public effort have been made to discourage smoking, for example. But there is little public effort and funding made to discourage sexual promiscuity which spreads STD’s.

Monogamous marital sexual activity is by no means dangerous. If one refrains from premarital sex and extramarital sex, and enters into marriage with a spouse who has also avoided those things, no “safe sex” precautions are needed.
