We can also understand the Cross as our tool for survival or weapon against the enemy in terms of passive suffering as victim, as demonstrated by Gandhi and, more recently, those martyred by ISIS: Through our testimony as sheep led to the slaughter we can awaken the world to gross injustice.

One should also consider the spiritual fruit created from suffering in union with God, consequences that we likely won’t see in this world, but will come to understand in eternity. So perhaps our suffering will come to be of use for the world to come, rather than for the benefit of this world.

Also, in this way, we can lean on the Cross for support, as a staff and shield to help us continue walking a painful road that would otherwise cause despair or madness – madness as in revolt against God for allowing the evil, forgetting His nature which is wisdom and goodness. For example, I do think some in Nazi death camps wound up cursing God for their plight. So seeing our suffering through the lens of the Cross allows us to accept it and continue walking the road to God, even if our suffering prevents us from seeing God.

Diary of Saint Maria Faustina of Kowalska

No. 83: “Write this: before I come as the Just Judge, I am coming first as the King of Mercy. Before the Day of Justice arrives, there will be given to people a sign in the heavens of this sort: …”
“All light in the heavens will be extinguished, and there will be great darkness over the whole earth. Then the Sign of the Cross will be seen in the sky, and from the openings where the hands and the feet of the Savior were nailed will come forth great lights which will light up the earth, for a period of time. This will take place shortly, before the last day.”
I’m confused. If this is to be taken literally, how can one explain in more detail what the sign of Her Son is? To me this explains quite precise detail what the Sighn of Her Son is or will be. Why are you asking for people to explain it to you. It seems to explain it quite well.

“A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another.”

John 13:34-35

Maybe this?

3 So Peter and the other disciple went out and came to the tomb. 4
They both ran, but the other disciple ran faster than Peter and arrived at the tomb first; 5 he bent down and saw the burial cloths there, but did not go in. 6 When Simon Peter arrived after him, he went into the tomb and saw the burial cloths there, 7 and the cloth that had covered his head, not with the burial cloths but rolled up in a separate place. 8 Then the other disciple also went in, the one who had arrived at the tomb first, and he saw and believed.

John 20:3-5

It’s his burial shroud – the Shroud of Turin. It’s real.
