There are a number of differences. I’m not a “birther”, but he really was more “foreign” than either McCain or Cruz. Considerably more.What about Obama’s “background” is so different from McCain, or Cruz
His father is not a U.S. citizen. No presidential candidate since Andrew Jackson had a foreign-born parent. Obama spent a good part of his young years overseas, including with his father. He has gone by two different last names. Relatives were produced who said he was born in Africa. And, of course, he is the first presidential candidate with a non-European name.
It wasn’t that odd for people to question his birth citizenship. What was excessive was their continuing to talk about it when the birth certificate was produced.
