I’m probably missing something here, but wouldn’t this so-called ordination, if held in the church proper, actually desecrate the building and altar (due to profane use) and require a re-consecration?

According to angelsdefendus they are to use the church proper, not the hall

I see that the Bishop is trying to return the gesture of good will that others have extended to Catholics in Alaska. Granted that we cannot stop this ordination from taking place, how sure are we that the Sanctuary is kept off limits?

We are trying to get it moved from happening in the Church.

We don’t know that the Sanctuary will be off limits and in fact, I assume that it WILL be used. The set up of the church is not configured in a way to host as many people as they seem to be expecting and have the “consecration” happen somewhere else.

Catholic Culture has posted a story almost identical to our original blog post.

We also have a letter to that Abp. that has close to 50 signatures from people around the world.

We are also putting together a Spiritual Bouquet for the Abp. hoping to change his heart through prayer.

As for the use of the Church, we have had no answer from the Abp. about any questions raised, except for the letter he originally posted on the Archdiocese website, that was later taken down. (Dont know the reason for this, but you can find it on my blog: Letter to Abp and Abp’s Letter)

If you have anymore questions you can check out Catholic Culture or My blog, and they have details. We have been calling and writing the Archdiocese all week, along with our blog posts, (which we know they read) so we are just kind of waiting to hear more info.

We are sending our official letter to them and to Rome in the morning.

I want to thank Angelsdefendus for the work that went into this. I’m sure God will not forget. I wrote the Archbishop, thanking him for his action.

Praised be Jesus Christ!

Oh! I am so happy this has been resolved! I have no problem with Catholics allowing other faiths to use our facilities when they are stranded, but allowing a non-Catholic “consecration” and invalid holy orders was disturbing. Perhaps it was originally offered out of extreme charity and in the interests of eventual unity, which is understandable and laudable. And theologically, probably OK or the Bishop wouldn’t have originally permitted it. But still, a distracting scandal and if not a state of emergency, does not seem necessary.

We can’t list email addresses here, but I strongly encourage anyone concerned with this issue to write the archbishop to thank him for his decision. As Angelsdefendus mentions in his blog post, the archbishop is likely to catch some heat from non-Catholics for his decision. Showing our support for his courage and conviciton, and letting him know that we are praying for him, would be a very good thing for us to do.

The email address for the archbishop can be found at Angelsdefendus’ blog:
defend-us-in-battle.blogspot.com/2010/08/abp-schwietz-has-officially-moved.html

Its a good post, and recommend you read it.

However, if you want to cut to the chase, the email address can also be found here:

(just click on the archbishop’s name)

THIS IS AWESOME! :extrahappy:

Now who said the Bishops don’t listen to the people? This should be mirrored on the L&S forum for those who think that we cannot fight liturgical abuses.

As Angelsdefendus mentions in his blog post, the archbishop is likely to catch some heat from non-Catholics for his decision.
Sadly, the archbishop is like to catch heat from some CATHOLICS as well :(, so all the more reason that we should write to him thanking him for what really is a brave act.
