It is possible, for instance, that God created another incarnated race of beings, but like the angels they did not fall or like those angels who did fall, their fall was like that of Lucifer. We cannot know, nor can we limit God by imagining that God cannot have done more things than we can imagine without ever having contradicted a single thing revealed to us by God as the truth. We know that God cannot deceive nor be deceived. We know we aren’t God. The rest is commentary, eh? 😃
(Or else He redeemed them in some other way, as C.S. Lewis suggests.) But this paragraph is by far the wisest in the thread.

Exactly. Don’t believe anything that contradicts the truth, but don’t put the boundaries of our imagination on the Holy Spirit. God is not bound by our little imaginations or our tiny intellects.

*Would the discovery of extraterrestrial intelligence – aliens – affect your faith?

The first and most important fact we have to confront in the whole question of “extraterrestrial intelligence” is this: we don’t know. Of all the planets we’ve found orbiting other stars, it’s not clear if any of them are suitable places for life as we know it. On none of them, nor indeed anywhere closer to us in our own Sun’s system of planets, have we ever found evidence that completely, uncontrovertibly, proves life originated in some place other that just here on Earth. As far as we know for sure, we could be alone.
Fr. Ernan McMullin, a philosophy professor at Notre Dame with a background in physics, has discussed the possible impact on Christian theology of discovering extraterrestrials, and he concludes only that it would certainly inspire theologians to develop new ways of thinking about topics like original sin, the immortality of the soul, and the meaning of Christ’s redemptive act. But, as he points out, there is already a voluminous literature, and hardly a consensus, on these points among theologians even today, without ETs!
Giuseppe Tanzella-Nitti, an astronomer and Opus Dei priest who teaches theology at the Pontifical University of the Holy Cross in Rome, comes to the same conclusion. He has written a lengthy entry on Extraterrestrial Life in the Dizionario Interdisciplinare di Scienza e Fede (The Interdisciplinary Dictionary of Science and Faith, of which he was an editor). But at the end, he concludes by saying (in my translation of his Italian), “the last word on the question of extraterrestrial life will not come from theology, but science. The existence of intelligent life on planets other than the Earth neither rules in, nor rules out, any theological principle. Theologians, like the rest of the human race, will just have to wait and see.”

and

*The Rev. José Gabriel Funes, an astronomer who directs the observatory, said he’s open to the possibility of extraterrestrial life and has been for quite some time. Funes finds no contradiction between Catholic theology and the belief in aliens. He has said in the past that humans shouldn’t put limits on God’s creative freedom.

However, Funes draws the line at the idea of an alien Jesus.

“The discovery of intelligent life does not mean there’s another Jesus,” Funes told AFP. “The incarnation of the son of God is a unique event in the history of humanity, of the universe.”*

This is more or less what I would think on the matter. I’m open to the possibility that aliens exist, and I think at worst, it merely would force us to think in new ways about some theological questions. But it doesn’t contradict the faith.

I’m not sure the part in bold is correct. I thought the Church teaches that Jesus came to redeem all of creation. I there are intelligent aliens, then they are fallen too as the fall affected everything, not just humans.

Do animals have immortal souls?
I’m not a Theologian but I would say no…only humans have souls…we were created in the image of God…Genesis says God breathed the breath of life into us…but also breathed the breath of life into animals…so I don’t know what happens to that breath of life that animals have …maybe that “life force” if you could call it that returns to God just as he breathed life into them…that’s not saying they have an immortal soul…no one really knows what happens to them…animals are part of Gods creation from the beginning…and God declared all of his creation good…so maybe when Christ returns and sin is no more…there will be a new heaven and a new earth…I can’t see any reason God why animals won’t have a place as they did before the fall…

Just to clarify: Some of the angels fell, some did not. That is all I meant. There could be rational beings in a category whose existence have never been revealed to us. We have not begun to dream of all that God knows and we do not, after all.

No, the Church does not teach that the Redemption is for all created beings. The Catechism says otherwise:

*II. THE FALL OF THE ANGELS

391 Behind the disobedient choice of our first parents lurks a seductive voice, opposed to God, which makes them fall into death out of envy.266 Scripture and the Church’s Tradition see in this being a fallen angel, called “Satan” or the “devil”.267 The Church teaches that Satan was at first a good angel, made by God: "The devil and the other demons were indeed created naturally good by God, but they became evil by their own doing."268

392 Scripture speaks of a sin of these angels.269 This “fall” consists in the free choice of these created spirits, **who radically and irrevocably rejected God and his reign. **We find a reflection of that rebellion in the tempter’s words to our first parents: "You will be like God."270 The devil “has sinned from the beginning”; he is “a liar and the father of lies”.271

393** It is the irrevocable character of their choice, and not a defect in the infinite divine mercy, that makes the angels’ sin unforgivable. **"There is no repentance for the angels after their fall, just as there is no repentance for men after death."272

394 Scripture witnesses to the disastrous influence of the one Jesus calls “a murderer from the beginning”, who would even try to divert Jesus from the mission received from his Father.273 "The reason the Son of God appeared was to destroy the works of the devil."274 In its consequences the gravest of these works was the mendacious seduction that led man to disobey God.

395 The power of Satan is, nonetheless, not infinite. He is only a creature, powerful from the fact that he is pure spirit, but still a creature. He cannot prevent the building up of God’s reign. Although Satan may act in the world out of hatred for God and his kingdom in Christ Jesus, and although his action may cause grave injuries - of a spiritual nature and, indirectly, even of a physical nature- to each man and to society, the action is permitted by divine providence which with strength and gentleness guides human and cosmic history. It is a great mystery that providence should permit diabolical activity, but "we know that in everything God works for good with those who love him."275*

Except for a few cases, UFOs have not caused damage to individuals or property. In the early years, engineers at Wright Field began They know what they are. And they are still tracking what they call “uncoordinated targets.”

Ed
Yep I believe NORAD has a name for them (fastwalkers), NASA calls them ‘Santa claus’, Im sure other agencies have their own names for them as well.

Regarding the damage though, I read a recent article about a former Air Force man, who came into contact with ’ an unknown’ and suffered severe radiation poisoning, the military tried to stop paying for his medical care, and this man sued them in court. It was kind of a big deal, I forget the guys name but can easily find the article, it was in a few papers. I think they did ultimately agree to continue paying for this guys medical needs as to avoid having to divulge much about the source of his sickness and how he contracted it.

i will look for the article in a bit and post it.

Here it is, this is just one source for the article. His name is John Burroughs

It’s very possible (maybe even probable) that demons are behind UFOs.

I have heard that people who have been abducted by aliens have called on the Holy Name of Jesus, and suddenly found themselves back in their beds.

I have yet read a credible explanation as to why an alien species that can conquer the limitations of physics wouldcome visit this planet.

I do not believe it is possible to for a manned space craft to travel the stars.

It’s hard for humans to accept that there are limitations to what can be accomplish
by science.

Thats human reasoning though, the reason for them visiting may be something we cannot even understand.

Its also human reasoning to put technology limitations on them to match ours, even though we are not able to travel to different systems, an advanced civilization that has been around far longer than we have, probably has overcome these limitations, in the same way we have overcome certain technological limitations in other areas, travel by plane is much faster than boat or train, cars are much faster than horse and buggy, and I bet in 500 yrs, we will have something that is much faster and more effective too…its all relative.

There was even a catholic priest that wrote a book and found the demonic possessions of the past are almost identical to modern day alien abductions.

I do believe some of this is demonic activity, from all the UFO reports I read weekly, a good deal of them show up and then just vanish, this has been going on for 100s of years, there are reports from the 1400s that describe the exact same thing people today are seeing, so this does not sound like behavior from an advanced civilization, it sounds more to me like demons trying to fool people using something that is popular.

And I know I will catch flack for this, but I believe it is setting the stage for a mass deception, when a ‘first contact’ event happens, so many people will already be conditioned to accept them, and if they claim to be our creators, lots of people will be primed to believe and accept this, they may even start worshiping them as gods, like some ancient civilizations did.

But, broadly speaking, any creature with a rational soul who is both matter/energy and spirit would share the same category as us. Insofar as our physical properties we are like the animals and insofar as our spirit we are like the angels, and we call this humanity. We are distinct from the angels because of our special privilege/capacity to suffer.

Scientific classifications categorizes different life as species based on genetic properties. However, theologically, any alien life we might call “man” if she expresses a desire to worship & please God.

Exactly.

I disagree with this, it does not seem logical at all considering what we know of our faith. Original sin is inherited, we are all separated from God until Baptism because we are all descended from Adam, ie the same species. Any creature of a different species would not suffer from our fall. Along these same lines, contrast us to angels. There was no single “fall” for angels. Each one of them had to choose themselves. Every angel is its own unique species. So one of the sinning did not affect any other angel.

So could Jesus’s sacrifice on calvary effect an alien’s salvation also? I suppose so, but it does not seem likely.

OTH, an alien species’ sin may not have affected their relationship with God in the same way our’s did. Perhaps they have sin, but do not need the same drastic action of the Incarnation and Christ’s sacrifice to repair their relationship with God. Why would this be? Maybe our sin was great because of our preternatural gifts (ie the gift of a great understanding of God). Maybe they were not given the same preternatural gifts, so any sin was not so drastic? Pure speculation.

In general, I still think it does not make sense for aliens to exist with a immortal soul.

Original Sin is based on the common lineage of mankind (on Earth). An alien civilization would not have that lineage, therefore would not have Original Sin, at least not from the same source as us.

There are - at least according to St Padre Pio - more demons in the world than there are people that have ever existed. This is a man who read minds, played with his guardian angel as a child, was regularly physically assaulted by demonic forces, had letters from his spiritual adviser erased, had Satan visit him during Confession and on one occasion pretend to be a penitent, etc. etc. If you believe his word, which I do, falling from grace doesn’t appear to be such a rare thing.

I’m not really on board with the crew that assumes the universe is packed with life. There is currently no solid working theory on abiogenesis so without that any calculations with guessing the amount of life in the universe have a margin of error that is so large it is hardly worth calculating (i.e. Drake’s equation). The universe is really big… a relative term since it depends who you ask… but that could be for no other reason than to humble us. I think this is one case where people - including very intelligent people - get clouded because of enthusiasm over the idea.

Another prospect that hasn’t been discussed is if - as a species - we are ancients of the universe, and if God is going to create other rational souls with physical forms like us, it hasn’t happened yet, and if there are other lifeforms they really are animals thus far. The universe right now is still in relatively early stages until heat death.

For alien life to be rational beings capable of interstellar travel is one thing. I think it’s possible. And every living thing has a soul. But only man, and angels have eternal souls and only man exists physically in the physical universe with eternal souls. ( meaning angels have no body) alien life no matter how intelligent would fall into the theological realm of animal. But both man and animal are classified scientifically together. This is where I think you painted yourself into a corner.
For another being to be baptized or even have an eternal soul would have to be revealed. And the door for that is closed. The Church could not declare an eternal soul.
It would be hard convincing an alien that to go to heaven they would have to be baptized including the Second Person of the Trinity. A human, who was kind led by humans on earth, for the ET’s sins???
How do you know thier isnt other races, that dont have eternal souls.Maybe they just havent been revealed to humans yet.

I guess the same way I know there aren’t purple unicorns with wings that God hasn’t revealed to us…

It’s a silly argument to just say maybe God hasn’t revealed it to us.

Maybe God hasn’t revealed that heaven is really Graceland in Memphis?

I’ll just sit and wait for someone to bring up the nephilm.

Still waiting for a response to Xenu…
