Sin is “a word, an act, or a desire contrary to the eternal Law” (Saint Augustine). It is an offense against God in disobedience to his love. It wounds human nature and injures human solidarity. Christ in his passion fully revealed the seriousness of sin and overcame it with his mercy.

There are a great many kinds of sins. They can be distinguished according to their object or according to the virtues or commandments which they violate. They can directly concern God, neighbor, or ourselves. They can also be divided into sins of thought, of word, of deed, or of omission.
A distinction is made between mortal and venial sin.

One commits a mortal sin when there are simultaneously present: grave matter, full knowledge, and deliberate consent. This sin destroys charity in us, deprives us of sanctifying grace, and, if unrepented, leads us to the eternal death of hell. It can be forgiven in the ordinary way by means of the sacraments of Baptism and of Penance or Reconciliation.

Rascalking…I hope you do not think I was directing my question to you personally. I deliberately prefaced it with “Dear Christian” to indicate that it was directed to all of us who claim this title.
That said…thank you for your response.
Personally my attitude is - Sin is bad and I pretty much stop there.
Now Love - That is a subject that we should sink faculties into. How to Love properly. How to grow in Love. how to delineate types and benefits of Love. How we can serve to build the Kingdom of our Loving God through our lives and acts of charity…
I truly wish that we could have as many threads to delineate and understand how to grow in simple holiness as we do in trying to delineate sin…

What would you say if I told you that only 30% of modern Catholics believe in the Real Presence? Well, it’s true. A mere 30% of Catholics today believe that the sacrament of Holy Communion is actually Jesus, the Son of God. Many think, “Oh, sure, it’s a symbol of God”. But, no, it’s the real thing. Christ instituted the sacrament of Holy Communion in order to remain with us until the end of time (Jn 14:18). He intended us to believe in Him and, doing so, eat His Body and drink His Blood so that our life would be eternal. If we do not believe, we are not fulfilling His plan. Furthermore, the deeper our trust in this Presence, the more surely we will be saved; the more surely we will be sanctified; and the more effectively – beyond our wildest dreams – shall we bring not hundreds, but thousands of souls to Christ. In other words, you can’t not believe in this glorious mystery of the Eucharist.
