i think she can answer for herself. dont need to paste anything. also she will be consistant with what she has stated previously. as will parker d. and z.šŸ™‚
I hope that she can paste it. It gets rather problematic to keep posting the same ideas in posts.

she doesnt post ideas. she post a well thought out, educated answers from the heart. nor is is problematic. the way some posters attack those of your faith, you should be greatful for people such as herself.šŸ™‚

No Catholic is required to read, let alone believe, what any particular Saint or group of Saints have taught.

Mormons on the other hand insist their member ā€œfollow the prophetā€. Hang on his every word and do every thing he might say to do. And so this person is prophet today. After he dies, eh, he had some nice opinions.

As usual, you have no comparison.
In the early days, mormons leaders said many things both good and bad. They were people living with the people. They were also frontier americans living the frontier life. They were not secluded away. No one insists that members hang on to every word that a prophet says. I am sure that mormon leaders say many things during the day that are not inspirational. They are men and women with families, who are raising children or grandchildren. They are in reality just average people who had jobs in the world and raised a family.

This is your flattened out belief why me. Please go to a mormon ward and ask any mormon there if they can disregard anything their living prophet said in their last general conference. Let me know how it goes.

john the baptist, lived out in the desert, he ate locust and wild honey. really living the frontier life. and being a prophet, every prophecy he uttered had to be 100% correct. otherwise again… he couldnt be a true prophet…no excuses. either they are correct 100% of the time, and are a True prophet. or they are not a prophet. read the law of moses. read jeremiah. there is no in between ground my friend. none. and where a person makes their dwelling has nothing to do with prophecy, or their educational level.šŸ™‚

Look at this page…look on the side of it, where you will see three books advertised for sale, promoted by CAF. These books are supported by Catholics, published by Catholics, written by Catholics, and ANYTHING but disavowed by the Catholic church. Now the titles will change every time you see this page, but about half the time the titles will include anti-Mormon titles. Right now, though, I see ā€œBeginning Apologetics Vol.4 How to Answer Atheists and New agers,ā€ ā€œAnswering Islam,ā€ and ā€œIslam, A Catholic perspective.ā€ When I refresh the view, I get ā€œBeginning Apologetics 9 How to Answer Muslims,ā€ "Beginning Apologetics 2 (which is ā€œHow to answer Mormons and Jehovah’s Witnesses)ā€ and ā€œAnswering Jehovah’s Witnesses.ā€ Refreshing the screen a third time results in ā€œWhen Mormons Call,ā€ ā€œInside Mormonism, What Mormons Really Believeā€ and ā€œAnswering Jehovah’s Witnessesā€ again. Well, that’s 3 out of 9 for the Mormons. Islam gets treated to 3, Atheists and new agers get one, and Jehovah’s Witnesses get 3; one repeat and they share one with us.

So…would you care to revisit your post and rethink your position regarding the stand of the Catholic church in regard to other belief systems?
Is there a difference between ā€œantiā€ and ā€œcriticalā€? And what does the books advertised by CAF have to do with the Catholic Church’s stand in regard to other belief systems? In fact, I don’t think it’s stance on other religions is any different than any other. We have the fullness of truth, everyone else has parts of it, some more than others.

So…in order to be a Christian, one must make the sign of the cross? Interesting, on many levels.
She obviously didn’t say that. What she did say was that she wishes that all Christians, if they believe in the power of Christ’s death and resurrection, would learn to make the sign of the cross. She did not say that in order to be a Christian, one must make the sign of the cross.

I have said that many times. I think Mormonism is of the devil (ultimately), as are all non-Catholic churches.

Soooooo…how do we suggest to groups that believe they are the one true church, like the Mormons, that it is somehow inconsistent for them to believe as we do?

I am all for postulating reasons to be Catholic and not LDS. This is not a good reason. If I were LDS, my faith would not be weakened by hearing that Mormons say, as they must if they believe in the devil, that other churches are ultimately under Satan’s influence. As a Catholic, it does not make me perceive the LDS Church as less true, because of such a belief. I have no thought of leaving the Catholic Church at this time (and by God’s grace I never will), but if I did, knowledge that the Mormons have this belief would make me more, not less open to their message.

I don’t get what is so sinister, or illogical about this belief, if Mormons indeed admit to it?

Rory
The OP, I believe, was not referring to dissent from non-LDS sources. The quotes were saying dissent by a LDS member, is sourced from Satan. You know, a LDS member should never speak out against the ā€œbrethrenā€. LDS will not, for any reason. Even non-ecclesiastical affairs, no way you will find a Mormon being critical of ā€œthe brethrenā€. Even when they should be. That is, until a Mormon leader is dead for a while, then it is ok.

But in the sense it has migrated to, and you are addressing here, I do not view as sinister. Other than, it is a weak thing to go by, faith-wise I mean, easy to break, to prove wrong. As partial truth can be found in any religion, and even many non-religious places. You can say it is how I was led out of Mormonism, in fact. I could see very clearly that this claim was false.

Mormons pray to Heavenly Father in the name of Christ. They worship one god: Heavenly Father.
…and…Jesus and the Holy Spirit are two more Gods, who are not worshiped. Then there is a Heavenly Mother (goddess) and the God that is the Father of the god they call God the Father…which is at least 5 gods in the Mormon pantheon.

A mormon hopes to become a god themselves, so the pantheon has potential for increasing.

More reason for her to paste what she wrote. In fact, I would recommend for her to have her responses saved somewhere so she can paste and repast them. It is very time consuming to keep writing the same posts over and over again.

Mormons do not pray to the Holy Ghost or to Jesus. They worship one god, heavenly father. That is my point. But catholics do pray to Jesus and to the father. Or they can forget the father and just pray to jesus.

Yes why me, I know your point and I also know you like to leave out information that clearly shows Mormons do not hold a Christian belief.

You replied to someone who clearly said Catholics worship the One God. Mormons worship a god, while holding a belief in many gods. Not the One God (only, no others) as the person asked.

Always trying to leave the meat out. :tsktsk:

Also the Father is not forgotten…seriously why me, please go to RCIA. Catholics understand while speaking to GOD, GOD HEARS THEM. What the Son knows the Father knows.

It is you who make a Mormon distinction of three gods, where one can be ignored. In other words, your polytheism is showing.

so why dont we all just paste our answers againa and again. 😃

Yes, they did have furniture initially, but it wasn’t to their liking. No, the employee of the Dept. store wasn’t the owner, he was a CASHIER that ā€œlet the 2 elders slideā€ through w/out paying. I DID NOT misunderstand, as you suggested – because after they :(-as I said earlier ā€œcleaned the place outā€ - they had the gall to brag about it to myself and ANOTHER young lady. I was there, you weren’t. Nuff said…
So, that makes you an accessory to the crime, and you are catholic, so I will never trust a catholic again!! According to you though, since you were only 22, you take no responsibility, so since the Missionaries are only 18 or19, they are off the hook too, according to your logic.🤷

:clapping: good point.šŸ™‚

About the books on the side of the screen…I have never looked much at books like that…Catholics have never been trained to actively recruit others like you see that coming out of the Stone Campbell movements.

These movements pretty much wipe out early Christian history, and also the dividing sects coming from High Christianity --Lutheranism, Anglicanism, Presbyterianism – and seek to be one in their own way.

Usually the Roman Church is the Mother Lode of corruption and evil. And because there is such a break in history with this horrible image people have of the Church, Catholics have a very hard time reacting to individuals of these sects who come knocking at our doors. So these little booklets have been put out…doubt they are in use in other countries that much.

My own history with people at the door is that first, they are intrusive, second, they have seen my madonna at my porch coming up, and third, I usually try to bring it to ground zero…who are their founders and use a little logic…for an emotional person like me, I have to be simple…It worked on two Jehovah Witnesses when I said it came down to how we understand what reality is…they just stood there and then I had to go…perhaps we could have had more conversation…but I also got irritated with my aging mother who kept these Watchtower tracts in her home. Watchtower magazine is pretty interesting and is particularly obsessed with the Catholic Church…

Yes, the JW tracts make me think of what it was like living in the disinformation society of the former Soviet Union…

Every disaster, every crime, corruption, more taxation, the rich cheating the poor, a tornado in Dallas, this is all the Russian people would see on Pravda News…anything wrong with the Catholic Church, WHAM!! BAM! BANG!!!..

Don’t bother trying to find the latest on the RC Challenge…it is on the Watchtower News.

When I think of Mormonism, and how they handle dissent, it makes me think of Japan…the nail that stands up gets hammered down…WHAM!

  1. Jesus did not go to America. He was ressurected and went into heaven.
  2. People do not become gods when they die.
  3. God does not ā€œlive on another planetā€.
Mormonism: Not Christianity.

However, in Utah, the lds church and the catholic church get along quite well and they both have a good working relationship. And in the end, that is what is important.
Sorry Why Me, but in the end having a good working relationship is not what is important. Jesus did not come to teach us how to get along with opposing beliefs. He came to give us the Truth which is to be perpetuated through His Church. That is what is important; the Truth, Who is Jesus Himself.

Anna, if the writings are opinions (which they were) and they are wrong (which they were) then yes. I dismiss them. If those opinions are not codified in the LDS scriptures so as to be considered solid Mormon Doctrine, then yes, I dismiss them. If the church, in the last century and a half, has officially made it VERY clear that those opinions were misinterpretations of Revelation and are incorrect, to the point that very highly thought of leaders (soon to be apostles, even…) are publically corrected and told to fix the error so that something called ā€œMormon Doctrineā€ actually REFLECTS Mormon Doctrine, then yes, I dismiss them.

For you to insist that we believe this is just as stupid as if I claimed that Catholics believe that women are far inferior to men because Thomas Aquinus claimed that, while a male recieved a soul 40 days after conception, a female didn’t get hers until 80 days after conception.

Of course, at New Advent, the Catholic Encyclopedia does have this to say:" The female sex is in some respects inferior to the male sex, both as regards body and soul."

…so perhaps that was a bad example.
Dianaiad,

You said to me, ā€œ. . .For you to insist that we believe this is just as stupid. . .ā€

I did not insist on anything. I asked you two questions, which you still have not answered.

I will ask them again:

Do you dismiss the writings of Founder, and First Mormon Prophet, Joseph Smith due to the age of his writings?

Anna
Anna, I believe that I answered your question very clearly and completely. I even used the word ā€˜dismiss’ in that answer.
You did use the word ā€œdismissā€ and gave a general answer. You still have not answered my specific question about Joseph Smith:

Do you dismiss the writings of Founder, and First Mormon Prophet, Joseph Smith due to the age of his writings?

I, also, asked: At what point in history did the Mormon Prophets and Apostles speak truth?

You still have not answered this question, either. You say we quote early writings, so this is your opportunity to tell us the point in history, when your Prophets and Apostles began to speak truth.

If you do not want to answer the two questions, just tell me.

Anna

…

It is about the founder, the prophet…

If you say, ā€˜Where’s the beef?!’…well, he said and did things that are a wee bit on the wild side…not like St. John the Baptist’s wild side…
