Yes we have 3 masses tomorrow which means I will be able to attend one after work 🙂
 
Not in South Africa unfortunately. In the great* tradition of moving all feasts to the Sunday…

In the Archdioces of Atlanta, Tuesday, Nov 1 is a holy day of obligation. See archatl.com/offices/odw/cal/litcal.html

I believe it is also a day of obligation for the Diocese of Savannah. See http://www.diosav.org/taxonomy/term/294

It was a spectacular sight this morning here in suburban Atlanta as I dropped off my daughter at the parish school around 7:45, to see the traffic jam as the church parking lot emptied, main Church lit up like a shopping mall, people streaming out of the Church ready to head to work.

I had to laugh as I heard the traffic report this morning. The reporter said, “I’ve never seen traffic this bad on a day without snow or rain. The traffic is just horrible.” I thought to myself that since Catholicism will be the biggest religion in Georgia in the next six or seven years, he had better get used to it on Holy Days. 😃

Yep, it’s all the fault of those darn Catholics. Traffic jams for Jesus!

I noticed a number of folks from outside the US who answered “no, not here”. Is this technically correct? I ask becasue we were discussing this very issue in my Confirmation class last week.

My understanding is that All Saints (November 1) is a universal Holy Day of Obligation, however some Bishop’s Conferences have transferred the celebration of the Holy Day to the previous Sunday.

So, would the answer to the OP’s question be “Yes, but it is not always celebrated on November 1st”?

Here in the Philippines it is NOT a Holy day of Obligation and it is NOT an obligation that has been moved to a Sunday.
All countries do not have the same number of Holy Days of Obligation (moved to Sundays or not).
Another example is that August 15 - The Assumption is NOT a Holy Day of Obligation in the Philippines (and has not been moved to a Sunday).

Thanks for the info. I did some more research and found the answer I was after.

The Universal Holy Days of Obligation that everyone must observe are set in Canon 1246. Section 2 of the Canon allows Bishop’s conferences to suppress HDO as well as transfer them to a Sunday. I was not aware a conference could suppress a HDO of the universal church, I only thought they could transfer it.
Can. 1246 §1. Sunday, on which by apostolic tradition the paschal mystery is celebrated, must be observed in the universal Church as the primordial holy day of obligation. The following days must also be observed: the Nativity of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Epiphany, the Ascension, the Body and Blood of Christ, Holy Mary the Mother of God, her Immaculate Conception, her Assumption, Saint Joseph, Saint Peter and Saint Paul the Apostles, and All Saints.

§2. With the prior approval of the Apostolic See, however, the conference of bishops can suppress some of the holy days of obligation or transfer them to a Sunday.
