Since I can remember all parishes where I live have always had the tradition of little envelopes containing the names of the deceased to place on the altar for the 30 days of masses for the holy souls.
One parish no longer has this tradition since the priest does not provide the envelopes, but does keep the holy day of obligation for All Saints.
Another parish is celebrating all three, 31st 1st and 2nd. (and provides envelopes)
So would the 1st (all saints) be the one day that combines all three so to speak? And should the priest provide envelopes for people to list their dead and be remembered throughout November?
Thanks.
