Although this happened last year, I never knew about it till I read it on another forum. What are those Bishops thinking?

Allah takes over Catholic Church
From the desk of Paul Belien on Sun, 2006-05-07 11:40
The Belgian Bishops have opened their churches to illegal immigrants in order to pressurize the Belgian authorities to allow the immigrants to stay in the country.
Most of the immigrant squatters in the churches are Muslims. They display banners in the church showing the name of Allah (picture taken in the church of Our Lady of Perpetual Succour, Brussels).

For the rest of the story: brusselsjournal.com/node/1053

There’s no reason why a Catholic should find the name of Allah offensive. The Vatican is explicit that this is the same God we worship. That being said, it seems inappropriate to have the banner in that area, and there’s no reason to cover up the Virgin Mary. If the squatters don’t like it, they can leave.

I do think the Church’s heart is in the right place, though.

From the additional links furnished in the article, it is being shown and described how the church(es) are being transformed into mosques. I think the Bishops are quite naive, if you ask me.

There was a large thread that covered this here on CA. I think it might have been lost in the crash of 2006:hmmm:

I thought Muslims had a devotion to Our Lady? No?

What did the bishop kick them Mohammedans out of the church? Anyone?

They honor Mary as a great woman, accept the Virgin birth and her perpetual virginity…but they do not believe in displaying images/statues of any being/person for devotional purposes, nor do they invoke saints in prayer.

Well they certainly shouldn’t be covering up Catholic images. They are guests in the Catholic Churches and should behave as guests!

So what else is a Bishop do when hardly anyone goes to Mass anymore? Can’t maintain a Church without income.

The title of the story is misleading. Allah is simply the arabic word for God. Its use predates islam and it is used by arabic speaking Catholics the world over.

Dauphin,

I have a very hard time with the “idea” that allah is the same God that Christians worship. The koran states that (I can provide the exact suras) “Allah has no son.” Logically speaking, if allah has no son, then we are not worshipping the same God, because our God’s son was Jesus. We cannot both be correct.

There’s only one God. The Koran is not inspired by any deity. The Muslims are like the pagans St. Paul comes across in acts, who are worshipping the one God who he declares to be the true God, even though they don’t know it. They didn’t believe He had a Son either.

Genesis:

I believe that within the context of “there’s only one God,” the koran states that “allah has no son.” This was written in opposition to the Christian dogma of the Trinity–threee divine persons in one God. The way the koran states “there is only one God” and “allah has no son” is to diminish the Christian dogma and doctrine. I believe in one God in the Three Divine Persons of the Trinity. I am not entirely sure who the muslims are worshipping.

Actually, they acknowledge the Virgin Birth, and Mary is the only woman named in the Koran.
He names some of his wives when he has to clarify scandals:
Verily! Those who brought forth the slander (against Aishah the wife of the Prophet SAW) are a group among you. Consider it not a bad thing for you. Nay, it is good for you. Unto every man among them will be paid that which he had earned of the sin, and as for him among them who had the greater share therein, his will be a great torment.
( سورة النور , An-Noor, Chapter #24, Verse #11)
This was because some accused her of having an afair. She must have been around 12 years old at the time. This revelation made her innocent.
And (remember) when you said to him (Zaid bin Harithah the freedslave of the Prophet SAW) on whom Allah has bestowed Grace (by guiding him to Islam) and you (O Muhammad SAW too) have done favour (by manumitting him) “Keep your wife to yourself, and fear Allah.” But you did hide in yourself (i.e. what Allah has already made known to you that He will give her to you in marriage) that which Allah will make manifest, you did fear the people (i.e., Muhammad SAW married the divorced wife of his manumitted slave) whereas Allah had a better right that you should fear Him. So when Zaid had accomplished his desire from her (i.e. divorced her), We gave her to you in marriage, so that (in future) there may be no difficulty to the believers in respect of (the marriage of) the wives of their adopted sons when the latter have no desire to keep them (i.e. they have divorced them). And Allahs Command must be fulfilled.
( سورة الأحزاب , Al-Ahzab, Chapter #33, Verse #37)
This is becasue he married his adoptive son’s (Zaid) wife, Zainab. It was very taboo in the Arab culture- much like it is today in non-Muslim society. But since this revelation, it’s ok for Muslims to marry adopted childrens spouses when tehy divorce them.

Intereting stuff!

How bizzare…how can it be the same God when the Muslims do not recognise Jesus in His Divinity or the Holy Ghost?

I do not worship Allah. They should close that particular Church IMO.
