This morning, when I get off work, I’ll will be taking the trip to Florida to FINALLY pick up my things. It has been over a year, one year and two weeks, actually, since I’ve laid eyes on my husband (Skypeing doesn’t count)
I’m constantly shaking and I haven’t even gotten there. I don’t want to see him or speak to him. Oh, and he asked for the rings back, since they were heirlooms, I get it, but still. So I get to hand them back over. I’m going to tell him that they must be cursed since both his parent’s and our marriage failed.
I bringing a friend and we are making a weekend beach trip, just to loosen things up.
I just want my things back, but I don’t want to have him around.
Thanka for reading my little rant and pray for me.

Imagine asking for rings back. I could never do that.

I would not be handing over things of value - rings or anything else - until the full settlement has been worked out and signed off, and with legal advice.

Settlement has been reached. We just aren’t legally divorced, yet. The only thing that has to be added in the paperwork is that I get my maiden name back. My attorney has been great.

Thinking about you and praying for you during this time. Snuggle close to the Sacred Heart and allow Him to take care of you. Praying also to St. Joseph to step in and be the “spouse” your husband should have been; to pray for you, intercede for you and support you in all your spiritual and temporal needs.

Oh, I would give them back and be done with him. I wouldn’t even want to keep them! You are right, bad history in those rings.

Kendra, be the strong woman you are, and get your things out of there and your life will be moving in the right direction. Glad to hear that you will have a friend with you for support.

Prayers offered for a safe trip, no confrontation, and peace.

You are a better person that I am. I would have pawned those rings and told him I threw them in the volcano and Mordor…

But I will be praying for you.

Good luck, Kendra, I’ll pray that everything goes well for you. Enjoy Florida, I do! 👍

😃 The evil, evil side of me fully endorses this idea, and points out that it’s still an option. Ditto inscribing them with something rude, yet accurate. “Until death, illness, or inconvenience do us part” comes to mind. Probably best not to take some of my suggestions. 😉

The…less evil…side of me wishes you the best of luck. I know how important heirlooms can be. And while you’re there, enjoy that beach, take yourself out to dinner, and (if you can) have a margarita or two!

The practical side of me says give him back the rings in the presence of witnesses, and make him sign a receipt.

Makes sense. Talking to your lawyer before you give them back, though, makes sense too. If he’s treating them as marital property (and not as a gift that was given to you), then they should be included in the list of marital property, and their value included in the final tally that the settlement addresses. If he wants them back, then you should get half their value. Just my two cents worth… 🤷

If the diamond’s greater than a caret and exceptionally flawless or well colored, do you have time to swap it out for a piece of cubic zirconium?😛 Ok, enough of evil me.

Kendra,

I’ll be praying for you. Small consolation right now, but it does get better, you do start to adapt. Used to stress about my ex’s birthday since I had the kids and wondered whether I should remind them or not. Therapist advice was to let them establish their own relationship with her and not get involved. But… would they want to be reminded, or would they see it as me pushing them to do something they didn’t want to do? It was a good year when I completely forgot her birthday until a week later…

My ex took the ‘upgraded’ set we bought ~5yrs after being married, but left the original set behind when she left. Had her rings and mine melted down and remade into a commitment ring to my kids- infinity symbol with my kids birthstones and an inscription inside to remind me that I will not be destroyed by the actions of others.

The old me would have suggested to put the rings in a bag with dog doo, shake really hard
and give him the bag.

The new me would never suggest that.
🙂

:rotfl: the current me thinks that is hilarious.

That was a very sweet and meaningful thing of you to do for your kids. 👍

Hi Kendra…just wanted to say I continue to keep you in my prayers, and I admire your strength and attitude very much.

Better days ahead for you, Kendra. One day at a time. Praying for you at this time.

Praying for you. It is inspiring how you are handling this situation! May god bless you!

Kendra, I agree with Gorgias’ post. I think that this is good information, since he’s asking for them back.

Prayers said for you. I am so sorry that this situation is causing so much anxiety for you.

May God bless you during this stressful time for you. :hug1:

I was going to throw them off the side of a mountain. Seriously. Glad I waited. Lol
