My singular, absolute favorite vocalist of all time has got to be the great Julie Andrews.
 
if everyones all over the page, then Bono

rock, and opera, his voice is one of their instruments.

and he loves Elvis 😃

I knew I was missing someone in my post. Bono is wonderful. I couldn’t believe it was him singing opera on The Hands that Built America.

yes he does but in Milan Bono steps in and sings. 😃

i will look at what cd its on, I know it was on my communication cd (which was a fan site gift 😃 Im sure it was on another though.
 
Freddie Mercury was such a great talent.

Right now I’m really liking Allison Krauss (bluegrass singer, usually sings with the band Union Station). She has this clear, strong voice that just floats on the high notes. So lovely. 👍
 
Frankie Valli --the world’s finest countertenor.

Frank Sinatra – the world’s finest song interpreter.

Bing Crosby – the world’s finest crooner.

Julie Andrews – voice like crystal.

“Bubbles” Beverly Sills, Kiri Te Kanawa and “Flicka” Frederica Von Stade for female opera; Luciano Pavarotti in his prime and (despite the crackly record sounds) Enrico Caruso. Mario Lanza was a marvel though his life was too short.

Ethel Mermen’s big Broadway voice was unique.

Shirley Jones and Gordon MacRae are the ‘voices’ of Rogers and Hammerstein musicals.

Jimmy Durante --He’s got a million of them.

Dean Martin and Mel Torme for ‘romance’.

Elvis. The King.

And that’s just for starters.
 
Patsy Cline (“Sweet Dreams”)
Roy Orbison (“In Dreams”)

Haunting vocalists both.

Freddy Mercury, that’s the name I was trying to think of. I heartily agree.
 
According to my wife, it’s Englebert Humperdink. Having attended several of his live shows, I tend to agree with her. Also, KD Lang is about two miles from being a reincarnation of Patsy Cline. I guess different tastes is what makes the world go around.
 
All mentioned are terrific singers, but no one beats Elvis, with Frank and Dean, close seconds.

Some others, how about Tony Bennett, Jack Jones, Nat King Cole, Johnny Mathis, Sam Cooke

For the ladies, how about Diana Ross, Dion Warwick
 
I’m not sure how I could have forgotten her, seeing as she’s a fellow Detroiter, but Aretha Franklin’s voice is quite remarkable. I was listening to one of her hits from the '60s on the radio earlier, and just marveled at the sheer beauty and power of her voice.
