Our parish allows boys and girls to serve.
Interestingly enough though, the girls tend to drop out of serving when they hit highschool yet we have many boys who are of highschool age and serve.
Frankly, what makes the boys want to serve less is when they see a boy who acts inappropriately while serving, but get rewarded and is asked to act as an usher while the boys who act perfectly, just get complaints about how long their hair is. The girls have nothing to do with them not wanting to serve, just hypocritical adults.
Apparently, some people are really hung up on appearances
and prefer clean cut hair but misbehaved over, solemn and devout long haired boys.
