I find it interesting that the article spends so much time talking about abuse of minors, but waits until the end of the article to say the age of consent in Ohio is 16 and that she may not have been a minor at all during any sexual encounters. Not that priests should be having sex at all, but it seems like that would be relevant information to state at the start of the article. Someone just looking at the headline would think “great, another pedophile priest.”

Actually 17 is still a minor, especially in the case of that big of an age gap. He may face ADDITIONAL CHARGES if she was under the age of consent.
From the article:
“Blackburn said that if contact occurred before she turned 16, Ohio’s age of consent, Foxhoven could face additional charges such as unlawful conduct with a minor or gross sexual imposition.”
As it stands, he is being held on a $1 million bond and face 8 charges.
The diocese also suspended him for taking her to a wedding reception. The suspension was for “boundary issues,” but no one turned anything over to the police and nothing was looked into further. When will anyone learn?
As for pedophilia, no one would think that since she clearly is post pubescent if she’s pregnant! But a priest in authority over an altar server, taking advantage of a high schooler, is disgusting. It’s illegal. It’s immoral. This priest should not only be facing charges, but should be excommunicated.

The age of consent in Ohio is 16, so 16- and 17-year-olds can legally engage in sexual conduct with an adult. However, an adult can still be convicted of statutory rape of a 16- or 17-year-old if he is in a position of power over the minor.

Not when the adult is in a position of authority. And if it is determined that they had relations before she 16 he will face additional charges.
