There is the FSSP Latin Mass Community in Harrisburg. Don’t go to the other one.
Agreed! The FSSP is faithful to the Holy See. To the OP., advocating women priests from the pulpit is way beyond most abuses. As one who grew up with the TLM., I had no choice but to attend the Novus Ordo for 40 yrs. & I faced many of the same challenges that you mentioned in your message. The constant noise, they very “busyness”, the Sanctuary filled with members of the laity, etc., etc. I began to miss Mass more than I’d ever done before &, as I look back on the last 20 yrs., the reasons I did so were pretty shallow. When the Motu Proprio was issued in 2,007, I found a small, “off the beaten path” parish that celebrates both the Novus Ordo & TLM. I joined this parish & haven’t looked back. After several months, I bought a Latin/English missal & find myself praying the prayers within it daily. For the past 3 yrs., I’ve attended the Latin Mass exclusively.
I’d like to share with you the message from Pope St. Pius X that is written on the page prior to the beginning of the Mass of 1962.
“The Holy Mass is a prayer itself, even the highest prayer that exists.
It is the Sacrifice, dedicated by our Redeemer at the Cross, & repeated every day on the altar. If you wish to hear Mass as it
should be heard, you must follow with eye, heart & mouth all that happens at the altar. Further, you must pray with the Priest the holy words said by him in the Name of Christ & which Christ says by him (the priest). You have to associate your heart with the holy feelings which are contained in these words &, in this manner you ought to follow all that happens at the altar. When acting in this way, you have prayed the Holy Mass.”
I couldn’t do that at my previous parish. The distractions…people moving about all of the time, visiting with each other before & after (& sometimes during) the Mass, crossing the aisle to shake hands & the CONSTANT parade of lectors, EEM’s, choir members & on & on, as they make their way to the Sancturary…were too great.
I believe in this excerpt from the Second Council of Lyons, A.D. 1274:
**“It is fitting that He Whose abode has been established in peace should be worshipped in peace and with due reverence. Churches, then, should be entered humbly and devoutly; behaviour inside should be calm, pleasing to God, bringing peace to the beholders, a source not only of instruction but of mental refreshment.” **
Thanks to God & Pope Benedict, I’ve found this peace & reverence in my new parish & the Latin Mass.
