Our catechist says I shouldn’t make the sign of the cross because I’m not baptized, and I shouldn’t genuflect because I can’t make the sign of the cross. Is she right? I can’t find any support for the claim.

Catechist is wrong on both counts.

Yes, the catechist is wrong on both counts, which is really sad to see

Another point, you don’t have to make the Sign of the Cross when you genuflect, anyway (nor after when you eventually receive Holy Communion).

Absolutely wrong on both. I would suggest you speak to the Spiritual Advisor for RCIA/CCD regarding what you were told.

Bizarre why does she say you can’t?

Your catechist seems to have forgotten what Jesus said.
John said to him, “Teacher, we saw a man casting out demons in your name, and we forbade him, because he was not following us.” But Jesus said, “Do not forbid him; for no one who does a mighty work in my name will be able soon after to speak evil of me. (Mark 9:38-39)

No, she is not right in saying that.

Bizarre is more like it–as Nelka just posted.

Like everyone else has said, she’s wrong. When I was going through rcia classes we knelt and crossed and genuflected. I just could not take communion at the time.

Maybe bring it up to someone in the church?

I hate all these allowed to / not allowed to things. I just want to go to church and worship. Can’t get baptized yet because I don’t have time to take all of the classes. Can’t take communion because I’m not baptized. And the whole service is centered around communion.

Cassandra Lyn,
If you can’t attend regular RCIA classes, speak to your priest. He should be able to come up with a schedule where someone, be it himself, the deacon or someone from the RCIA team, can meet with you outside of the regular class schedule.
