I am trying not to be paranoid, but ever since I accepted Catholicism, my career has been a roller coaster ride. While I don’t deny that I’ve made bad choices along the way, I have been in a situation where I’ve lost jobs after employed for a year. Not only that, I had a short period of depression which I sought professional help and the intercession of St Pio and I recovered.

How do I know I am cursed? What can I do to relieve myself from this curse?

Superstition about “curses” is against Catholic teaching. You need to stop thinking that way.

It’s unlikely that this situation is connected to your acceptance of Catholicism. More likely that all this would have happened anyway and your Catholicism is giving you extra strength to deal with a bad situation (such as by praying to St. Pio when you had a spell of depression).

Pray and have confidence in God, then look factually at what is going on with your job situation and address it. You note that you yourself made some bad choices which contributed to the situation. Try to learn from these mistakes so you can develop a good plan for the future.

Surely, apart from a supernatural cause, you must have some practical idea why your bosses let you go.

It could be a blessing. The devil knows that his time is short and so he pulls out all the stops.

My guess is that you are creative ad intuitive person. You bring advantages to your employer but your strength may cause problems especially if your bosses are not like you. This is not a spiritual issue. Talk to a clinic psychologist.

Jesus become the second Adam. He took the sin & curse on Himself on our behalf. See Book of Galatians Chapter 3: verses 13 to 14. (New Testament) If You believe in Jesus, You are not cursed. Or under original sin of the First Adam (and Eve).
[Virgin Mary became second New Eve]

First Baptism and Baptismal (re) vows at Easter Time period is taking any Original Sin or [curse] of You. It is even just Blessing Yourself with the Holy Water entering or Leaving The Catholic Church. And touching the Holy Water and doing the sign of The Cross. ie is also another simple way of re first Baptism. [Baptismal Vows]. The original sin of the first Adam is not with You. Jesus the second Adam took it all away.

Thank Jesus every day for that. You are not under any “curse” or Original sin now.

Catholic exorcists, and those in the deliverance ministry and the bible say: curses do exist.

The Vatican’s International Catholic Charismatic Renewal Church Committee also says curses do exist:

http://www.iccrs.org/en/doctrinal-commission-questions-and-answers/

It takes discernment to figure out is it:
  1. just God permitting crosses in one’s life, God sometimes just tests people a little to see: ‘will you remain true to Me no matter what?’
  2. just accidents that can happen,
  3. the work of satan attacking you,
A powerful biblical prayer recommended by someone in the deliverance ministry in my country, is:
‘In the Name of Jesus, No weapon formed against me by satan, shall prosper.’
Repeat it as often as you want, but believe it, Jesus told all His followers: ‘Your faith has obtained this for you.’

The bible does say pray for protection from evil each day. Jesus says pray the Our Father each day (which has the line: ‘deliver us from evil.’)
Saint Paul says in the bible to ‘put on the armour of Christ’. He includes a whole prayer for it; just google ‘Ephesians Armour of Christ’ and say that passage each day.

A powerful Psalm in the bible that can be prayed for deliverance each day is: Psalm 91 (it prays that no harm will befall you, your family, or property).

Pray the Saint Michael prayer each day.

Say the prayer to your gaurdian angel.

Some extra strong prayers of deliverance written by healing ministry priest Fr Robert De Grandis can he found on www.larrycummins.ie (if you download his two free ebooks and go to the last chapters there are special deliverance prayers written by a priest who was in the deliverance ministry). Both these two free ebooks have excellent advice on what a christian can do to be spiritually armed for daily life.
Such as: have a bottle of holy water in your room, your kitchen, your car, your workplace, (holy water has an exorcism prayer on it). Wearing a blessed miraculous medal or brown scapular. Carrying a blessed rosary in your pocket always.

A fantastic catholic book on deliverance that will change your daily prayers forever is:
‘The Miracle Ship’ by Brian O’ Hare (available on www.amazon.com as ebook download onto your phone or laptop or tablet, or as paperback purchase).

Saying the Name of Jesus in your thoughts is a protection prayer, the bible says the apostles told Jesus that demons left the possessed when they used Jesus Name.

Claiming the protection of the precious blood of Jesus on yourself, loved ones, work colleagues and property is powerful. Because in Egypy the blood of the Passover Lamb caused the angel of God’s Justice to passover the jews and leave them unharmed.

My own favourite deliverance prayer is:
‘In the Name of Jesus, I command all evil spirits and all their companions, and all curses, to leave me, my family, relatives, friends, associates, aqcuaintances, in-laws, and friends, and our places, possessions, and sources of supply, and command them to leave immediately and directly, without any harm, manifestation, violence, or revenge towards any of the people, places, and things mentioned, and go directly to the Presence of Jesus Christ in the nearest Blessed Sacrament of the Altar, where Jesus Christ will dispose of them according to His good and holy wishes. I also forbid them from returning in the Name of Jesus.’

Well a curse is basically calling down some form of evil on someone and this practice is condemned by the church.

Catecism No.2117 "All practices of magic or sorcery, by which one attempts to tame occult powers, so as to place them at one’s service and have a supernatural power over others - even if this were for the sake of restoring their health - are gravely contrary to the virtue of religion. These practices are even more to be condemned when accompanied by the intention of harming someone, or when they have recourse to the intervention of demons. "

I don’t think the Church teaches anything on generation curses but they did exist in the old testament. But Christ paid the price on the cross to save us from curses. There are also environmental factors that appear to be a curse. Like if a father is an alcoholic, there is a possibility that a child could genetically inherit it. Without knowing the full details and your disposition, it’s really impossible for us to know. But having depression and losing a job is extremely unlikely to be the result of a curse.

My suggestion would be to seek medical help if you are still suffering from depression. Make an appointment with your priest and tell him your concerns. Ask Saint Michael for his intercession. Forgive anyone in your life, including yourself. Go to confession and receive the Eucharist.

Weren’t you given a reason for being let go?

Depression can happen to anyone. Ypu say you recovered, so tgat’s certainky not a curse; many people don’t.

If it makes you feel any better,
many believers, at one time or another, feel “ cursed “ -
It may be true, that a demon is hot on your trail - at the moment…
And we do consider God, our Father, as loving and protective…
so when things go contrary - we blame…we’re upset…,
God - calls the shots.
Always pray. Always hope. And try never to worry.

I dont see any indication of any paranormal activity in this post. It seems like a string of misfortunes, which happen to us all but can be overwhelming when they happen in a short period. I would just say you had a tough run. Pray, hope and dont worry.

Hello everyone, many thanks for your replies.

Actually, I do not want to think about this, but for the past few years my career has been like something of a roller coaster (although I do realise that I may have made bad choices along the way).

The reason why I am thinking along the line is because I was brought up in an environment where my family practices other religion (think of those Thai stuff and mediums in Asian context). My journey in accepeting Catholicism is nothing sort of a miracle (another story for another time), and that made me very decided to be baptised. However, my family does not know I am baptised (and I risk getting disowned if they know it).

By the way, I will be making time to speak to a priest regarding this, and also to get his view. In the meanwhile, I hope you all can please pray for me as I hope to seek employment very soon.

Thank you all.

Not in the superstitious way the OP is saying. “Oh, I lost my job. Am I cursed?”
If he really thinks he is cursed then he should go talk to a priest.
Who will likely tell him that he just needs to pray and figure out his job situation.

Unfortunately there is a tendency among some people to think that a curse or supernatural cause is behind every little thing that happens to them. We should not encourage that kind of thinking. Catholicism is not voodoo. The page you linked talks about people being under occult bonds, often because they have been involved in some activity like witchcraft. There is no indication of that in the person’s original post. In his second post he brought up a different religion being practiced by his family, and I addressed that in my reply to the second post.

Thanks for giving more background.

I think the issue of your family practicing a different religion is totally separate from what’s likely going on with your jobs.

I also think you will get better insight from seeing a priest who knows you and is in your own culture.

I will pray for you and your employment situation.

There is no harm in praying about something,

Our Lady told Saint Dominic that prayer averts God’s justice from a person, It obtains His mercy and blessings, it can drive away misfortune,

Prayer might be what changes a difficult situation, I have faith in that

Do so again. If your employer has an EAP, use it. This is a chance for you to grow in character and maturity.

You are right, there is never any harm in praying, but one has to have the right mindset also when one prays.

The Jesuit leader who got into a lot of controversy for saying the Devil isn’t real was trying to make the point that people need to take some responsibility for their own acts and quit shifting blame to “demonic influence” every time something bad is happening or they do something bad. There are cultures where people assume a curse or a demon over every bit of bad luck. We need to be careful not to fall into this thinking and instead to be turning to the Lord with confidence every day of our lives and asking Him to help us take the practical steps.

In the rare cases where there is actually some sort of curse or demonic influence, as opposed to just fears in a person’s own head, then a priest is the right one to help sort this out.
