Am I breaking God's law with a cigar and a beer?

I agree with others…your Dad and the team are risking his prosecution, the boys all being kicked off the team and/or suspended from both school and your team conference, possible charges against you and friends for under age smoking, drinking and possession, pissing off other parents…not good

Your Dad should stop. Teenage boys are happy with food…how about you talk to him about not taking such risks in the future, and maybe treat the guys to a cookout and a cooler of pop? Make it about hanging out, celebrating and bonding as a team, not about sinning, going behind other parents’ backs, and breaking the law.

One big problem is cigar smoking is linked to mouth cancers. And it really really really smells.

Smoking of any kind is not good for a person’s physical health. And it pollutes the air for others who do not smoke.
As for drinking beer, it is not good for you, either. But taken in much moderation, is not as bad a smoking.
Harming a person’s body is breaking God’s law.

By disobeying just laws to not provide minors with tobacco and alcohol your dad is breaking the law. As catholics it’s usually a sin to disobey just laws. So in my opinion, as I’m not a priest, I’d think it sinful

It is not illegal in the state of Connecticut, as well as a majority of the states in the US for a parent to give their kids alcohol. Usually a no on cigarettes,

For sure no with other people’s kids.

You are way underage to be doing either. Your dad isn’t doing you or your team mates any favors.
He hsouldn’t be buying his teammates cigars or beer however I do feel a parent has the authority in his house to discern if his kid is mature enough to enjoy a beer or cigar. An arbitrary age determined by a state doesn’t really concern me.

I’ve let my kids try my beer. Is taht a sin too?

Some states allow kids of any age to drink a beer in public if they are with a parent or guardian

So I think you are fine but your dad needs to stop buying it for other kids and he needs to get it cleared by your mom.

Sorry. You are 16 years old. Don’t even talk about putting yourself up with noble things like the military until you have been there. You are 16. You are a child, and your father is justifying his bad choices of letting you drink and smoke when you are underage by speaking of “noble things” you have never accomplished.

Quite ironic.
wow. I think you really misunderstood his post

Alcohol affects brain development. Your brain is not fully developed until about 25 years of age.
This is the biggest problem I see with it
A beer every once in awhile isn’t going to do anything to a human brain

Maybe you ought to do some reading on the subject if that is what you think. You are wrong.

It’s my health tonic of choice…my kids’ too. 😂

At least you don’t have to worry about little daughter driving drunk. She can’t reach the car pedals and see out the windshield at the same time.

I believe the Catholic belief is that your body is God’s temple. Just like you should not be cremated you should not pollute your body. This is what some may call an acceptable sin. I’m against both.

I’m just surprised to learn that 16-year-olds smoke cigars!

I hope not. I got a cigar and beers for chiefs game. I still have a few more puffs left, but dont plan to immoderatealy continue, and have not addictively abused them. I enjoy it. But yes, still most keep it in check. More importantly is food. I’d guess most Americans are more guilty of gluttony sin, then cared to be admitted

Except according to the OP, his father not only gave him beer, but his buddies.

A parent might have a problem with that, and if their kid was in a crash where some one was killed, his father could end up in jail with a giant lawsuit as well.
