Am I overreacting?

You might also be wise to talk to the people at the local women’s shelter, because no one will be better-versed on the local options of a woman who really needs to stay away from a dangerous person. Do consider this acquaintance as a very dangerous person. Normal people do not think like that, let alone make threats like that. Certainly no one who really loves you would even hint at such an unspeakable plan. Awful.

I have never been so depressed before in my life. I feel helpless. Tomorrow is my birthday and I cannot even bear to think about it right now. I have no friends or family to celebrate with…so much bad has happened this year and this topped it off.

I cannot handle anymore. I do not want to live anymore. Please pray for me. I’ve never felt so alone before in my life. There have been bad times, but never ever like this.

I will pray for you. Hang in there and get to talk to a counselor as soon as possible!

You are strong and you will get through this. You can handle it, and you are not alone.

Do not give up!! Keep your eye on the prize!! God has a great many things in store for you in your future. IOW: Your future is not about you. Your future belongs to God, and it is not up to you to decide that you don’t want the gift of life that God has given you. You were put into this world for a purpose, and God intends for you to faithfully look for that purpose and pursue that purpose.

If your birthday comes and goes in a busy blur or turns out to be a bad day, it is not the end of the world. A birthday is supposed to be fun, it is supposed to be a little personal break where you stop to enjoy the gift of your life, not some lofty goal you have to achieve that is a failure if you weren’t happy that particular day! If tomorrow is a bad day to celebrate your birthday, then move the celebration to next week or next month, if you like. Those of us with birthdays around Christmas do it all of the time! If your birthday isn’t happy, give yourself a mulligan and have another try at celebration, until you get it right. That is allowed.

Then when you get yourself through this tempest, go out and celebrate again. Whenever you have a little achievement for which you can give thanks, do it! 👍

To the OP: You could talk to someone at a area shelter or go to RAINN.org.
It works just like instant messaging. You’ll go into a private session with a trained volunteer or staff and communicate, live, by typing messages back and forth. The service is completely anonymous, and you do not have to give your name or any personal information.
RAINN.org is available 24/7; not all “shelters” are.

I’m sorry you are going through this and that hurtful things were said on top of it. It’s good that you reported this to the police; what that guy said was scary and I will add my vote that you are not overreacting.

I’m so sorry you’re going through a terrible time. Depression is probably magnifying it even further. Please go look into a counselor or therapy- it really is helpful. There will be someone there to turn to when things are bad.

I’ve dealt with OCD/depression for years, and it started really getting bad around the time I went to college. That seems the right age for everything to go to hell.

It may take a fair amount of time, but you can get through this and it will be better. Mental problem are as real and medically valid as physical problems, and need to be looked into and treated. And they can be fixed.

I’ll pray for you too.

I suggested this because I feel more confident when I’ve gotten advice from someone who is experienced at coping with whatever I’m coping with for the first time. It helps one sort out what is worth doing and to feel as if one is doing one’s part to make the situation work out. Once you’ve done your part, God gets to worry about the rest.

Nada te turbe–St. Teresa of Ávila (feastday: Oct. 15)

Let nothing disturb you,
Let nothing distress you;
While all things fade away,
God is unchanging.
Patience overcomes everything.
With God in your heart,
Nothing is lacking.
God alone suffices.

Exactly. 🙂

Thank you all for your prayers and support. It means so much to me, you cannot possibly imagine how much it means.

I’m still really struggling right now. Things got worse today, with the addition of an ongoing family situation. I want to be able to cry as some sort of release, but I am unable to…I simply cannot cry. All I find myself doing now is staring blankly…I feel out of it, and like I can barely function with people anymore. Also, I have been advised to not leave the house unaccompanied.

I have a horrible urge to cut (I have in the past) and so far I have been able to resist the temptation. It just seems like there is no other way to get this pain out.

Again, I thank you all so much for your kindness. God bless you all.

Hi lovedance4ever,

Do you do any sports or do you dance:D? Whenever I feel life is unworthy, I turn off phone, ignore emails, forget about school or work and go for a long running. Some days I spend ridiculous time at the gym or playing volleyball. I just find something to take me out from the stress for some time. When I come back I will feel much more calmer. So do something, sport, swim, dance, read a lovely book, or just go for a walk, put your thoughts out of this, what was done is past now.

And remember that this is just a phase. I also did terrible things to my parents when I was teenage (police involved as well ) but afterwards my parents never touched this incident again, what was important to them was that I was alive and safe. You still have very good things to happen ahead of you. So hold on and be optimistic. One action doesn’t define your whole life. Cheers

God has a plan for you, and cutting is not in it, so good job on the resistance!

Hmmm…well, I have found it helps me to speak to Our Lord on the Cross when I feel isolated, alone, hopeless and all those awful words. He knows, he really knows. When Lazarus died, he went to the tomb and the first thing he did? Jesus wept. He doesn’t rush in and say, “I’m here, so dry it up.” He is truly God, but also fully human. He has been the odd one out, the one rejdcted by the neighbors in his home town, the one being given horrible threats and afflicted with enemies he did not deserve.

Think back to how you learned to stop cutting. What helped you? Make a list. Think of ideas. IOW, plan to win this battle. Ask for help from your guardian angel. Remember that temptations do not last forever. This will pass. You can do it!

EasterJoy, I cannot thank you enough for these beautiful words. You have really made me stop and think about everything…and I feel a bit more calm than before. God bless you.

I am so glad to hear that. God has a very special plan for you, but the evil one will try to stop it. If you follow God’s plan, you see, you will give God’s grace to others, relieving their suffering on earth, and you will also give glory to God in heaven. Every time you have a victory over the temptations, that is written down to God’s glory. That obedience is God winning. That is not what the devil wants.

The devil tempted Our Lord, and the devil will not leave you alone. God will not abandon you, though. God will send you help. Even when things are the worst, there will be a Simon of Cyrene…do not think that someone who never wanted to help you was not sent by God. Anyone who helps you, that is the work of grace. Anyone you feel moved to help, that is the work of grace, even if there are set-backs.

If you fall, remember what happened to St. Peter, to St. Paul. Always get up and ask for God to wash you in the blood of Christ, to help you to walk with God again. God is not going to give up on you, but will always scan the horizon for the day you come back. Hang in there!!

This is a potentially dangerous situation that is beyond the scope of CAF. Please contact local authorities.
