Am I supposed to say the whole 15 decade Rosary?

But that’s just it though, I don’t feel as if I am being scrupulous to a degree that some think that I am.

I’m not saying that those who use a finger Rosary and take walks or visit a park bench and say it are in the wrong. What I was saying was that I feel that breaking down decades and mysteries into miniscule events that it sort of defeats the purpose of saying it? I suppose saying 5 in the morning, 5 midday, and 5 at night is ok. But to further break it down anymore I just feel is counterproductive.
Well, that’s the beauty of it being a private devotion If that’s how you feel, that’s fine. As was said before, no Catholic is actually obliged to say it, so it doesn’t matter if you find one way works better for you, while another person feels differently.

Just do what you believe the Holy Spirit is asking you to do. That’s what we all should be doing.

For most of my life, I’ve always just said a 5 decade Rosary. However, I came across an article from a priest yesterday on a site that says Our Lady wants all 15 said and not just 5

I know that certain mysteries are to be said on certain days, but if Our Lady wants all 15 isn’t that what I should be saying? For the record, it takes me about 45 minutes to say the whole 15 decade rosary.
If you are interested in gaining the plenary indulgence, then, among other conditions, you need to say at least 5 continuous decades.

So I gain a plenary indulgence if I say at least 5 continuous decades?

""The Plenary Indulgence attached to the family Rosary
On any (and every) day of the year, the faithful who have attained to the use of reason (which includes even children and young adults) may gain a plenary indulgence once per day by the recitation of the Marian Rosary either in a church or oratory or in a family, religious community or gathering of the faithful. (Enchiridion of Indulgences, Grant 17.1)
Five decades of the Rosary suffice to gain the indulgence, remembering that “devout meditation on the mysteries is to be added to the vocal prayer.”
To gain the plenary indulgence, the three usual conditions must be met:
  1. Sacramental confession (several days before or after, such that monthly confession suffices for a daily plenary indulgence)
  2. Eucharistic communion (one communion for each plenary indulgence, several days before or after)
  3. Prayers for the intentions of the Holy Father (traditionally, the Our Father and Hail Mary, but any prayer suffices)
Additionally, one must not be attached to any sin, not even venial sin.""

Father - by “finger rosary” do you mean counting the Hail Mary’s on your fingers? I am glad to hear I’m not the only one…I usually divide the decades across the day as well and often use my fingers as I may be walking, on the train, etc.
If I am only going to say one decade, I do simply use my fingers. If I am saying a couple of decades, the finger rosary that I have had for years is quite small and unobtrusive and easily at hand.

St JPII gave us the Luminous mysteries, bridging the time span of Our Lord’s life, , between the Joyful and Sorrowful mysteries, making the Rosary a new total of 20 mysteries…

As an aside, St Padre Pio, never stopped praying the rosary every day. For him he prayed the rosary all during his waking hours

Having been to the holy land and spending time in all the places of the Rosary, it’s easy to get lost in meditation as each mystery is named.

Yes I was reading about Padre Pio and the Rosary. He would say 30, 40, 50 of them a day! I have no doubt they were full on 15 decade Rosaries from what I can infer.

I’m going to keep saying a 15 Decade Rosary for as long as I can in one sitting.

I truly find that difficult to believe,

I thought he was famous for spending hours in the Confessional, for one thing (or didn’t he listen to whoever was confessing).

And what about when he was washing or other personal stuff? Or having meals?

St Francis thanks for the weblink.

Does this passage mean the Rosary prayers should be voiced, rather then silently prayed? For the devotion.

““Rosary: The Rosary is a vocal prayer said while meditating upon the mysteries of Our Lord’s life and Passion and Our Lady’s life. To comply with the request of our Blessed Mother, it must be offered in reparation and said properly while meditating.””

Lots of pictures of Padre Pio show him having a Rosary in his hand at all times.

It’s true he spent 18 hrs a day in the confessional. That doesn’t mean inbetween confessions he wasn’t praying.

Fr. Alessio Parente, took care of Padre Pio for the last years of Pio’s life. I spent 1 hour with Fr Alessio in Oct of 99 at San Giovanni Rotondo, that was 3 months before Fr Alessio died. What I wrote is what Fr Alessio told me about Padre Pio

Don’t forget the luminous mysteries.

I’ve yet to work them in. I’m trying to get the 15 decade Rosary down. To understand it deeper, and deeper. Once I do, I will incorporate the Luminous Mysteries. Perhaps I will do a separate one fo rthem all their own.

After St JPII, added the luminous mysteries, filling in the history that was missing between the joyful mysteries and the sorrowful mysteries, I never looked back. I thought it was -]brilliant./-] no Inspired 😉

If I do not feel up to it, I have taken habit of saying the Luminous Mysteries. However, I still feel fairly confident about saying the 15 Mysteries.
