Am I within my "rights" to only receive from the Priest?

[NB: Not intending to argue about EHsMC]

At my Church there is always one EMHC giving out Communion (despite it being totally unecessary, but that’s beside the point for now). Recently I have noticed that the Pastor makes a point about having a woman give out the Sacred Host. Now, am I within my right to want to rather get Holy Communion from the Priest? I feel uncomfortable receiving from anybody other than a Priest anyway, but the fact that there seems to be a push towards having a female give out the Sacred Host makes me even more uncomfortable. I have a feeling that some might of course find this offensive, within my Parish and probably here at CAF too. But I’m just asking, not making any claims are saying anything as fact.

Can’t you just sit in the section of the church that would go through the priest’s line? I prefer to receive from the priest, so we always try to get there in time to sit in the section that goes up to his line.

Yjere is nothing in the Canon Law neither in the natural law to provide you this right.

The Priest often changes so it’s hard to tell which side he will be giving communion from, which is what makes it difficult.

Yes, you are within your rights, but it is utterly ridiculous. (a man). Cheers.🙂

You are completely within your rights. I used to feel the same, still do actually, but not enough to change lane. 🙂
Same thing goes for kneeling to receive Holy Communion while others are standing; receiving it on the tongue while others do so in the hands. The Church has okayed these changes so they are fine but I would rather the old ways.

:dts:
There is any Church teaching which prevent her from doing so ???

what is wrong with having a female instead of male!!!

Shouldn’t Christianity supports equality between man & woman !!!

What is wrong with it? It goes back to what is wrong with the widespread EMHC abuse - the supposed elevation of the laity to the role of the Priest. The blurring of boundaries and the belief that clergy and laity are not different at all and the erroneous belief that there is sexism within the Church that needs to be rectified and balanced. There is not a Church teaching that prevents her from doing so - but I am uncomfortable with it in the first place, but more so when it seems to me like an effort towards saying “We will give woman this role so as to make them feel inclusive in the male Priesthood”.

Men and women are equal; but different.

Once the host is consecrated it is the “Body, Blood, Soul and Divinity of our Lord Jesus Christ” no matter who hands it to you.

I am a EOEM in my church and we find not enough men volunteer. Why not volunteer and recieve up by the altar and be an example!

I believe the priest is within his rights to have this person give communion.Since this is the case I would just go along and recieve it from her.If you have a problem with this talk to the priest.Tell him you wish He were giving Communion.Wait for his answer.Tell him your opinion.

Hate to say this, but if you want to receive from a Priest and not have to worry about EMHC’s, get thee to a traditional mass.

Maybe you should try to think about the real presence of God and the grace which will directly come to you the more directly you reach Him, rather than all this ideology which only brings disquiet to you.

I think this is a bit uncharitable. He said, he feels uncomfortable receiving from a member of the laity. Why not respect that?

I could if there were. In South Africa, there are zero Latin Masses. They happen occasionally with Bishops, and even then it isn’t the EF it’s OF with Latin.

I am quite aware of the Real Presence, thank you. In fact, it is because I am so aware of it that I am concerned with how it is treated. And it is because I value Priests that I am concerned. And it is because I value the laity, and women, that I am concerned. One does not exclude the other, and the attitude you are attributing to me is not one I have.

Thank you 🙂

It is not a matter of exercising a right, no one has the “right” to receive Christ in the Eucharist it is a free gift. Yes anyone can receive from the priest if it is possible and not disruptive. This means of course in most places you have opted then not to receive from the cup, but that is also your free choice.

We have first communions throughout the year so I seat the candidates on “Father’s side” because they must receive from the priest.

I think you know very well that’s not what I was referring to or what I meant by this thread.

But thanks for the response anyway.

The right to receive communion while kneeling and on the tongue has been explicitly given. However, I am unaware of any right to receive communion from a priest only. I would be hesitant to advance asa a “right” something that is not given as a right.

I say sit in the back and when you see where the priest is, go that way. That is what I do. I can’t stand the use of EMHC when they are not needed and avoid them when I can.

Then it would be really nice if the lay “eucharistic ministers” were taught how to give Communion on the tongue, instead of trying to shove the host into folded hands.
