Amazing: St. Paul's Regions Hospital to halt abortion services

Regions Hospital in St. Paul will no longer provide elective abortion services with the closure next month of a clinic inside the medical center.

There is more significance here than meets the eye. Any students of history out there? Dr. Jane Hodgson anyone?
In 1970, Hodgson performed an abortion on a 23 year old married mother of three children who had contracted rubella, which can cause serious birth defects in the fetus and child. The abortion, a dilation and curettage (D&C), was performed at the St. Paul-Ramsey Hospital (now called Regions Hospital). At the time, abortion was illegal in Minnesota, unless the pregnancy was a threat to the woman’s health. Hodgson was charged, pled guilty and was sentenced to 30 days in jail. This was the first time that a licensed physician had been convicted for performing a therapeutic abortion in a hospital. She appealed to the state supreme court which overturned her conviction after the pivotal Roe v. Wade decision by the United States Supreme Court.

Good news but they should have never started abortion services in the first place.

A symbolic victory, perhaps, but one worth noting.

Back in the 1970s, when the hospital began abortions, it was run by the county government. In the 1980s. the hospital became private. Granted, that change happened some time ago, but I wonder how easily the hospital could have discontinued abortion services if it were still a public hospital.
 
The history involves big names from big institutions. Young Dr. Hodgson was significantly influenced by a pro-abortion OB-GYN at a very large medical center in Rochester, MN. This OB GYN testified at a hearing for Dr. Hodgson. When asked his opinion as to when life begins, this prominent OB GYN disingenuously is said to have replied (and I have this on good authority), “How the h*ll should I know?”

A shameful day in medical history. Yes it may be only a symbolic victory, but it is still a notable part of the unraveling of the pseudo-compassion and intellectual arrogance on which this practice was founded. And yes, there are bigger and more prominent institutions than Regions Hospital yet to abandon this practice. Institutions that don’t really like to get any negative press, if you know what I mean.
